A Sign of Affection Episode 8 Review and Recap – Shin Meets Yuki

A Sign of Affection Episode 8 Review A Trip Down The Memory Lane

This anime is definitely becoming one of my favourites this season in the romance sector for all the right reasons. This episode starts with Itsuomi introducing Yuki to his best friend, Shin. Considering that the first time Yuki met Shin was at a bar, and he was very drunk, she does not know how he would perceive her. Whether he will be judging her hearing impairment or whether he will approve of her or not is something that makes Yuki doubtful about herself in the beginning.

There is also the fact that last time, their meeting made Yuki feel Shin is the flashy type who might be too much to handle for her. Hence, when she meets him at his house, in a normal setting, and finds out that he is a quiet and introverted person, Yuki is taken aback.

Shin, on the other hand, is also very surprised because he does not think Itsuomi will have a girlfriend. Thus, even he doesn’t know how to act in front of Yuki now that she is at his doorstep. But the first concern that he has after finding out about Itsuomi’s relationship is how well Emma can take the news.

Shin also did not consider that Itsuomi would go for a girl who could not speak or hear as he thought he was into foreigners. But even he could tell the deep bond his friend shares with Yuki after seeing them interact.

This episode mostly focuses not on Itsuomi and Yuki but on Shin. Shin is a complex character, as we have seen that he is someone who is very secretive about what he feels. He has always been with Emma and Itsuomi, but he never really made them aware of what goes on in his head. And through a very well-crafted flashback, we get more insight into the relationship the three shared in their school days.

I can’t say that the anime uses new tropes that are not already present in shoujo. No, you can tell the dynamics between the characters and how they might act if you have read enough shoujo manga, but what I love about this show is how nicely they portray the obvious situations. The show goes on at a very nice pace and gives enough time for the viewers to understand and feel the same kind of emotions the characters are experiencing. Plus, it also has really pretty animation with great music, which automatically elevates the whole viewing experience.

Verdict

I loved this episode because yes, we do get some heart-pounding romantic moments, which definitely made me gush. But we also get the perspective of other important characters like Shin. How his arc will go will also determine whether his friendship with Emma and Itsuomi will last or not in the future. In the next episode, we will see the main couple more actively, which is why I really can’t wait for next week.
