Ahsoka’s Howler creatures win over Star Wars animal lovers – “I want one”

Episode 6 of Ahsoka introduces fans to a creature known as the Howler and it hasn’t taken long for Star Wars fans to say, “I want one.”

*WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Ahsoka episode 6* — The Star Wars franchise has always included its fair share of weird and wonderful creatures and the ongoing Ahsoka series has just introduced Disney+ viewers to a brand-new fan-favorite.

What is a Howler in Ahsoka?

Introduced in episode 6 of Ahsoka, which also saw the return of some familiar faces, Howlers are a new type of creature within the Star Wars universe.

The furred animals, which are almost like a bizarre crossover between horses, wolves and adorable little puppies, are native to the planet Peridea which is located in the galaxy that neighbors the main Star Wars galaxy.

Howlers roam the wilds of the planet but can also be tamed and ridden, with Sabine Wren and Captain Enoch using the word ‘tota’ to get the animals to sit.

The creatures also appear to be incredibly loyal as Sabine’s Howler refuses to leave her side, even after she commands it to leave her alone.

Sabine makes a friend

Initially, Sabine is not keen on her new furry companion as the Howler bolts when she is attacked by a group of bandits as she searches for the missing Ezra Bridger.

After defeating the ambushers, Sabine continues her journey on foot, only to find that the Howler has returned and is now following her, almost like an excitable puppy.

This leads to a charming scene where Sabine orders the creature to leave, only for it to secretly start following her again moments later.

Realizing that the Howler is sorry for bolting – it could simply have been trying to get Sabine to safety after all – she starts to bond with the animal and encourages it to use its knowledge of the planet Peridea to help her find Ezra.

Star Wars fans want Howlers to be real

There’s always plenty of discussion when a new creature is introduced into Star Wars lore but the Howler has proven to be incredibly popular with fans as many have already taken to social media to say that they want a pet Howler in real life.

One fan on X (formerly Twitter) wrote: “Can’t express how much I need a Howler! Look at this stupid little face.”

While this excited fan shouted: “I WANT A HOWLER NOW!”

This fan quickly spotted the trend: “So we all want a Howler, right?”

“I don’t know why but I really like the Howler on Ahsoka,” commented this fan in a slight change of tone. “It was ugly but cute, and I liked how it followed Sabine like a little puppy.”

But this viewer got the conversation back on topic: “Listen where can I get my own pet Howler?”

This fan took some convincing at first but quickly fell for the new creature: “Us when we first saw the Howler in the new Ahsoka ep: wow that is ugly. Us when Sabine yelled at it and it started acting like a kicked puppy: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.”

And finally, this viewer had a warning should anything happen to Sabine’s Howler: “Disney better not kill off Howler I swear.”
