American Horror Story Delicate Episode 1 Ending Explained

American Horror Story Delicate Episode 1 ends in a circular manner bringing us back to the beginning of the episode and giving us the much required clarity. Anna’s embryo transfer makes up for a big chunk of the second half of the episode. We see the famous actor visit Andy Cohen’s late-night show, where she handles herself just fine but has her moments of down when she starts seeing Ms. Preecher in the audience and later finds the Summer Day doll in her dressing room.

When Anna comes back home from her reality show event, she starts feeling like there is someone in the house. She finds the sticky note with her embryo transfer day and time torn apart. She calls out to her husband, Dex who does not respond and ends up calling him. Turns out it is Dex’s big opening night and it was decided that Anna will not be able to make it due to her tight schedule. Anna overlooks this fact and makes it to Dex’s show, not without putting on the red lipstick that Talia had given her earlier in the week. Although red is not her colour, she puts it on with confidence and visits the gallery.

On visiting the gallery, Anna ends up meeting Sonia- the woman Dex is opening for. And much like Talia had mentioned, Sonia looks like a spitting image of Dex’s deceased wife, Adeline. This unnerves Anna, more so when she notices Sonia’s heels- exactly a pair she had seen in the washroom stall earlier. Due to all her preoccupations, when Dex approaches her, she is shocked and lets out a scream. It results in Dex rebuking her.

The next morning is the embryo transfer day and Anna is taken in at the clinic. However, while the transfer is happening, she is dosed with drugs and sees a rather horrifying vision of Ms. Preecher vomiting blood over Anna’s stitched mouth. Anna zones in and out for the next few moments until she is home but, has no idea how she got there.

Soon enough, the episode loops back to the beginning where we see Anna sleeping and her hands intertwined with someone in her bed. She wakes up with a jerk to see a mysterious figure in black curling up with her and jumping off the bed when she wakes up. After the chase, she sees that what we all mistook for blood in the starting scene is not blood at all, ensuring that her embryo transfer is successful and safe.

Instead of the blood, it turns out to be the red lipstick. She looks at her phone next as a calendar message drops in. It asks her to look in the mirror. Scribbled on the mirror with the red lipstick are the words “Don’t Do It Anna” written.
