Russia to scrap contracts of Nepalese nationals who joined Russian Army: Deputy Nepal PM

In recent news, Nepal’s Deputy Prime Minister, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, announced that Russia has agreed to cancel contracts with Nepalese nationals in the Russian Army. This comes after reports of seven deaths, bringing the total casualties to 19.

Shrestha revealed that Russia has given “in-principle consent” to cancel the contracts with Nepali nationals, with efforts underway to bring them back. The Nepali Embassy in Moscow is actively following up on this, as many youths from Nepal joined the Russian Army through illegal means.

Shrestha also spoke to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and expressed his desire to visit Moscow to understand how Nepalese nationals were deceived into joining the Russian Army. Nepal has urged Russia to stop accepting its nationals into the army and has requested help in repatriating those who have already joined.

Last year, Nepali police cracked down on travel agents involved in human trafficking, arresting 18 people. This ongoing situation highlights the risks faced by Nepalese nationals who illegally join foreign militaries and the importance of government intervention to bring them back safely.
