Did Elon Musk’s Twitter Post Say X Users Who Use ‘Weird’ to Describe Trump Supporters ‘Will Be Punished’?

Did Elon Musk Twitter Post Say  X Users Who Use 'Weird' to Describe Trump Supporters 'Will Be Punished'?

In July 2024, an X user claimed that Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, had posted on his social media platform, saying that using the word “Weird” to refer to Trump’s supporters would not be tolerated. To support the claim, the X user posted a screenshot of the supposed Elon Musk Twitter post, which read:

“Any harassment of Trump supporters using the term ‘Weird’ will be punished.”

“‘Weird’ is being used as a slur against Trump supporters, and it will not be tolerated on this platform.”

The screenshot was shared by an X user named @theliamnisson. The Elon Musk Twitter post was reposted thousands of times.

However, there was no evidence of Musk having posted any such message, and numerous media houses tried to get to the truth.

No such post was found after viewing Musk’s handle on July 30, 2024. Using PolitiTweet, a database of deleted tweets from Musk’s account, also did not reveal the post by Musk in question.

It is also possible that the database is incomplete and possibly did not contain all the deleted tweets.

This is possible if the user had shared such a message and then deleted it. However, this possibility is very remote since Musk is a well-known personality and his Tweets are closely followed, and any news outlet would have documented it.

In all probability, the screenshot created by the X user is fake and was digitally generated.

The Elon Musk Twitter post screenshot also revealed another inaccuracy.

Elon Musk’s verified account on X is marked by the X logo and a blue verification tick next to his name.

The circulating tweet, which has since been deleted, does not feature the X logo, indicating that it is not from Musk’s verified account or the post has been digitally altered.

In the past, Elon Musk’s Twitter posts always endorsed free speech and have never included derogatory comments on any political party.

Therefore, it is highly improbable that Musk would have tweeted that the platform will punish any user for using words like “Weird” to describe Trump or his supporters.

The screenshot also surfaced at a time when US Vice President Kamala Harris emerged as a presidential candidate.

Harris’s campaign managers have made it part of the presidential campaign to criticize former President Donald Trump and his running mate as “weird.”

In the past, it was also revealed that @theliamnisson had made posts that were fake, including a screenshot supposedly showing a BBC News broadcast in which Trump called U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene a “sasquatch.”
