Did Oliver Anthony File a Cease and Desist Order Against Tim Walz to 'Stop Using My Song'? Know the Whole Story

Oliver Anthony has a hit country song, “Rich Men North of Richmond,” to his name, and everyone knows it topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart in August 2023.

However, the song is in the news because there are rumours that singer Oliver Anthony filed a restraining order against the democratic party’s vice-president candidate Tim Walz for playing his hit song, “Rich Men North of Richmond.”

Did Oliver Anthony File a Cease and Desist Order Against Tim Walz to ‘Stop Using My Song’?

However, this news seems suspect as to why Oliver Anthony would have an objection if his song is used by the running mate of Vice President Kamala Harris, who is the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party.

The song already has a formidable reputation, having topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for two consecutive weeks in late August and early September 2023.

Therefore, many media houses delved deeper, and what they uncovered was the same story, and the genesis of the rumour was again the satirical website America’s Last Line of Defense (ALLOD), which in the past had featured many fake narratives, including news about the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Several users shared these false narratives on Facebook and X.

One such instance was a post on X, which displayed a meme with the caption,

“Oliver Anthony Files Cease and Desist Against Tim Walz: ‘Stop Using My Song.’”

The post did not end there and continued,

“They have some nerve just picking a song and running with it. They never asked my permission, and I certainly don’t approve. Your thoughts?”

This statement was attributed to Oliver Anthony, and it further added that Oliver Anthony had filed a cease and desist order against Tim Walz for playing “Rich Men North of Richmond.”

However, there is no evidence that Anthony had filed a desist order against Walz.

Media houses also searched and did not find any evidence of Anthony’s music being played at Harris-Walz rallies.

The rumours once again were traced to America’s Last Line of Defense (ALLOD), a website whose about me stipulates that it is a satire/parody site and clearly says that nothing on its page is real.

Netizens have now become more vocal about such sites, and one user stated,

“This meme is a great example of bulls*** trying to influence people. Walz, nor any Democrat, is using this man’s song. In fact, it was used at the REPUBLICAN national convention.”
