However, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker’s social media video has ignited speculations that Gov. Josh Shapiro is going to be Kamala Harris’ running mate.
Did Philadelphia Mayor’s Social Media Video Reveal Kamala Harris’ VP Pick?
A video posted by Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker appears to hint that Gov. Josh Shapiro, D-Penn., is Vice President Kamala Harris’ choice for her running mate, and social media has gone into a frenzy with speculations that the post was an accidental leak.
Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker, in a post on X on Friday, once again reiterated her support for Harris’ campaign.
However, she also gave her thumbs up for Shapiro as her vice-presidential pick, despite the fact that Kamala Harris has yet to announce her running mate.
In the video, the mayor said:
“And I cannot think of a better partner than our governor, Josh Shapiro.”
The post read:
“Proud to be back with so many leaders from across our region supporting @KamalaHarris for President and @JoshShapiroPA for VP! We are One CITY, One REGION, and ONE Commonwealth United!”
Many social media users quickly contended that the post was leaked accidentally by a staffer and revealed the much-anticipated name of the Vice President’s running mate.
However, a source familiar with Parker’s political operation denied this.
Fox News Digital, quoting the source, said that the video was not posted accidentally but was done purposely to show the endorsement for Parker’s longtime friend and Governor Josh Shapiro as Harris’ running mate.
However, Ernest Owens, a reporter for outlets including Philadelphia Magazine, called it a scoop and said,
“Philly political sources have told me that a staffer connected with Mayor Cherelle Parker’s team accidentally posted the video today.”
Shapiro is in the race for Harris’ running mate, but he is not alone, and there are many names for the post including Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., Andy Beshear, D-Ky., and Govs. Tim Walz, D-Minn.
Though Kamala Harris has not announced her running mate, the names are expected to be out shortly. The chosen running mate is expected to join Kamala next week on a four-day battleground state tour that begins in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Tuesday.
In a statement, a Harris campaign spokesperson told Fox News Digital,
“Vice President Harris has directed her team to begin the process of vetting potential running mates. That process has begun in earnest, and we do not expect to have additional updates until the Vice President announces who will be serving as her running mate and as the next Vice President of the United States.”
