- The introduction of the Fantastic Four in the MCU’s timeline, along with Doctor Doom’s history as their arch-nemesis and his prominence in the comics’ Secret Wars, make him a fitting choice for the MCU’s adaptation of the event.
Doctor Doom has been imagined as the villain of Avengers: Secret Wars in a stunning new fan poster. Secret Wars is already anticipated to have a massive, star-studded cast of heroes as the MCU’s second Avengers: Endgame-level crossover event, with even greater stakes due to the introduction of new characters across the multiverse. With all the excitement about who will be in Secret Wars has come speculation about who its villain will be. Kang the Conqueror has been set up as the main Multiverse Saga villain and will be the major threat in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, but his role in Secret Wars is not as certain.
In a new fan poster on Instagram created by @mjdartworks, Doctor Doom replaces Kang as Secret Wars’ villain. In the poster, Doom looks as powerful as ever, looming over Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and commanding respect with a menacing glare. He is joined by MCU heroes who are likely to play major roles in Secret Wars, including Spider-Man, Hulk, and Ant-Man, as well as characters that have not been formally introduced yet but are eagerly anticipated. Characters that have been confirmed dead, like Black Widow and Scarlet Witch, also make appearances, which could happen, as the MCU has used the multiverse to revive dead characters before. Is Doom Actually The Villain Of Avengers: Secret Wars?
While there is no way to tell for sure if Doctor Doom is Secret Wars’ villain, there are multiple hints that he may be. Jonathan Majors’ assault allegations and trial have left Marvel Studios in a difficult position about whether Kang should remain the major Multiverse Saga villain. As it stands, he is still the main villain, but after Majors was arrested, Marvel considered replacing Kang with Doctor Doom, which would put an end to Majors’ career in the MCU. As Majors’ trial is still ongoing, and there’s a lot of time between now and the premiere of Secret Wars, the MCU still has ample opportunity to make the change.
Another hint that Doom may be in Secret Wars is the MCU’s timeline for its introduction of the Fantastic Four. The MCU’s Fantastic Four movie is slated to be released in 2025, two years before Secret Wars, granting the franchise the perfect opportunity to introduce Doctor Doom. Doom is most famous for being the arch nemesis of the Fantastic Four, having been featured in both of the team’s live-action adaptations so far, so it would be fitting if he appears as the villain in the MCU’s adaptation of the heroes. He has also battled heroes like Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, and the X-Men in the comics, so he would be right at home as Secret Wars’ Thanos-level threat.
While Kang is set up as the main villain in The Kang Dynasty, this does not mean that he will be a two-part movie villain like Thanos. Doom is a major player in the comics’ Secret Wars, so the MCU may follow suit and use The Kang Dynasty to set up Doom for Avengers: Secret Wars. The MCU has already demonstrated that Kang is easy to defeat, as three of his variants have already been killed so far, so this may be foreshadowing that he will not survive his movie and another villain like Doom will come in and take his place.
