A Facebook post which in all probability is another scam falsely claimed that a Pennsylvania man Brian Posch, who was found dead earlier this year, is still missing.

The false post has since gone viral and widely circulated in the Facebook group “Fargo-Moorhead SALES AND MORE.”

What is this story and why does it has all the signs of a scam? Read on to learn more about the Brian Posch Scam, which was cleverly designed to dupe the gullible netizens.

Who was Brian Posch?

Brian Posch, 36, a resident of Pennsylvania went missing on April 5 and his body was discovered in his submerged truck in the Monongahela River four days later.

A Facebook post which was circulated in August stated that Brian went missing a day before and also claimed that his truck was discovered with his baby girl inside but there was no sign of him in his truck. This news soon spread and led to confusion and distress to Brian’s near and dear ones.

The Facebook group post reads

“HELP FIND HIM – 36-year-old Brian Posch went missing yesterday morning here in #limerick,” one.

Another Facebook post read,

“HELP FIND HIM – 36-year-old Brian Posch went missing yesterday morning here in #Danielson.”

Meanwhile, the narrative became viral despite local authorities confirming that Posch passed away in June and is not a missing person.

Local authorities have also urged citizens to validate any information before sharing it online.

A spokesperson for the Hazleton Police Department stated,

 “It’s crucial to rely on credible sources and avoid spreading unverified claims,”

The local community pages also negated the claims and Wayne County scanners posted a warning,

“PSA: If you see a post saying that Brian Posch is missing, do not share! Instead, report the post to the group administrators. It is a scam. Sadly, Brian Posch is dead. He went missing on April 5, and his body was found four days later. We feel so awful for his family who has to see this scam being posted over and over again. These scammers are sick.”

A GoFundMe page was established to support Posch’s family at the time of his demise and it has raised $57,587 for his wife, Alanna, and their 1-year-old daughter, Mila.

The Brian Posch Scam has also distressed Posch’s family who have expressed their deep agony and stated that such fake news only adds to the grief they are going through after the demise of Posch.
