The Paris 2024 Olympics is having its fair share of controversies and the latest controversy is the rumour that Samsung Electronics, the South Korean tech giant has announced that it is withdrawing a $1 billion advertising campaign with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The rumour has caused a huge uproar and there are reports that it is fallout of the tableaus at the Paris Opening Ceremony, Samsung cited the Olympics’ “woke agenda” as the primary reason for its withdrawal.

Samsung has been a major sponsor of the Olympic Games for the last thirty years and was crucial in providing an enhanced viewing experience for millions of fans worldwide.

Samsung has contributed immensely to the transformation of the Olympics into the digital age with its virtual reality coverage to state-of-the-art mobile connectivity.

Therefore when the news broke out that Samsung dropped out Olympics deal it was a big surprise for everyone.

However, this news has turned out to be false and had originated from a satirical site. In what has become a common occurrence some nondescript satirical site pushes a fake narrative and later it is picked by viewers and soon becomes viral.

Esspots, the website which published the story on July 28, 2024, even outlined the reasons for the electronics giant to withdraw abruptly from the $1 Billion advertising contract with IOC.

It said Samsung cited the Olympics’ “woke agenda” and the debate which had ensued in the sporting and corporate world.

However, glancing through the About Us page of Esspots, the website makes it amply clear that the story is fake.

The website is a subsidiary of SpaceXMani.com which creates content which are satirical in nature and fake.

The ‘About Us’ page of the site makes it clear that its writers and editors are dedicated to bringing amusing but fake news for the viewers entertainment.

On the same day Samsung Newsroom published an article detailing how it has contributed to the Olympic Games.

It also revealed that it has distributed more than 200 s24 Ultra smartphones to different athletes so that they can livestream their performance.

The opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics featured some tableaus which has angered a section of the Christian population.

The ceremony featured drag queens and dancers in a section that some viewers described as Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper.”
