French Footballer Kylian Mbappé’s Twitter (X) Account Hacked; Cryptocurrency ‘$MBAPPE’ Posts Flood the Platform

French footballer Kylian Mbappé was having his rest in Spain before his match against Las Palmas when his account was hacked. Fans reported that the footballer’s X account was showing multiple posts about the cryptocurrency ‘$MBAPPE.’

Users also reported that the value of the crypto asset surged and then tanked within minutes.

However, the posts remained visible at the time of writing this article.

Kylian Mbappé’s Twitter (X) Account Hacked

Many users are questioning whether the French star’s posts on X were the consequence of a genuine hack or if the footballer was endorsing the coin.

Regardless of the facts, the value of the nondescript crypto asset surged to tens of millions within minutes.

However, it soon fell back to zero within minutes.

Unconfirmed reports stated that a user purchased around $286 worth of tokens and sold them at the peak for a profit of about $200,000.

So is Mbappé promoting a memecoin?

For the unversed, meme coins are a type of cryptocurrency inspired by internet memes, characters, or trends.

Meme coins are endorsed and promoted by enthusiastic online communities.

They are designed more for fun and entertainment rather than any practical use.

Examples of meme coins are Dogecoin and Shiba Inu, which are more often linked to their entertaining values than real-world applications.

The hack that happened on August 29 also featured a series of controversial tweets on the footballer’s X handle.

There were posts about Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and the ‘GOAT’ debate.

There were controversial posts about Premier League teams Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and more.

All the posts were made anonymously.

There were also posts about the Israel-Palestine issue.

However, most of the tweets were later deleted.

Still, many of the posts from the hacked Kylian Mbappé’s account had gone viral by then, and the damage was already done.

The 26-year-old French footballer was last seen on the field during Real Madrid’s 3-0 win over Valladolid, in which his performance was mediocre and he did not score any goals.

After being associated for a long time with Los Blancos, Kylian Mbappé finally joined the La Liga club in the summer of 2024, penning a long-term contract.

On debut in the UEFA Super Cup, he scored his first goal in the 2-0 win over Atalanta. However, he often faced flak for not linking up with his teammates at crucial junctures of the matches.

Mbappé was desperately looking for a fillip in his career and was eagerly looking forward to the match as Real Madrid takes on Las Palmas on Friday in their bid to claim the top spot in the La Liga standings. The reigning champions will face Real Betis in their final fixture before the league pauses for the international break.
