In episode 4 of Disney+ K-drama Gangnam B-Side, we get a shocking twist! Although we are given the impression that everything has come to an end, the series makes us realise that the game has just started when Dong-woo gets a phone call that confirms his worst fears – his daughter has been kidnapped. Meanwhile, Seo-jin finds out that Joon-seo has been murdered in his hospital room and that her department has now come under scrutiny. It’s clear that there is someone else who is controlling all of this corruption and Joon-seo was just a small fish in the sea.

Gangnam B-Side Episode 5 Review
The episode starts with Dong-woo desperately searching for Ye-seo while the latter looks extremely distressed as she comes face to face with Choi Soo-in. The two of them have a conversation about Jae-hee as the latter puts her inside a distressing room and Soo-in reminds her to think about her own safety instead of worrying for Jae-hee. Meanwhile, Dong-woo tries to get the video from Jae-hee in order to help Ye-seo, but she refuses to give it up easily.
Unfortunately, she overhears him talking about Ye-seo’s abduction and decides to take matters into her own hands. She gives herself and the video up to Kei who mercilessly beat her up, while Ye-seo gets safely dropped off in a park. Jae-hee ends up back where she started, it becomes clear that she shares a warm bond with Soo-in. The two chat about Ye-seo as Soo-in feels distressed about what is about to happen to her. Soo-in tries to help Jae-hee run away, but the latter is determined to see this problem through and chooses to stay.

Elsewhere, Kim Jang-ho figures out Jae-hee’s whereabouts and finds a dark web website where Jennie’s comeback performance is getting auctioned. He tries to find where the filming is taking place, while Gil-ho floods Dong-woo’s phone with calls. Thankfully, Dong-woo recognises the place in an instant and rushes to the spot, while Soo-in lets Gil-ho know what’s going on. Unfortunately, Dong-woo isn’t able to find the room where the streaming is taking place, while Gil-ho desperately tries to get in touch with Soo-in but his calls get declined.
However, Dong-woo finds himself drugged as he desperately tries to figure out the next move, while Jae-hee, in her final act, jumps off the building to finally find freedom and peace. Gil-ho reaches the building just then and is left heartbroken to see her dead body. In the aftermath, Ye-seo blames her father for Jae-hee’s death while Gil-ho, burning with the need for vengeance, asks Kei to get ready because he is coming for him and Mr. Choi.

Meanwhile, Seo-jin finds some shady messages from Choi Hak-gu and decides to message him from Yoon-seo’s phone and immediately gets a message back asking them to meet. At the meeting place, Seo-jin presents everything that she has against him and Ju-il, but Hak-gu assures her that he has a plan in place in case something like this happens. He then propositions her to join his team, leaving her shocked.
Gangnam B-Side Episode 5 Review
I mean, I did not see that coming. BIBI and Ji Chang-wook have definitely left me awestruck and this is one of the reasons why the series is so interesting to watch. As we move swiftly from one twist to another, the former has left a lasting impression on us even after Jae-hee’s death thanks to BIBI’s incredible performance. Poor Ji Chang-wook constantly has something happening to him but the actor also leaves a lasting impact.

That being said, I feel like the different revelations are coming a little out of left field in every episode. Although it is enjoyable, I find Gangnam B-Side to lack tension. I mean, you do find yourself thrilled, but there’s nothing that makes you wait for what’s to come. It lacks a lot of tension and anticipation because you mostly understand what’s about to happen. Except Jae-hee’s death – that completely came out of left field!
