Hollie Strano faces DUI charges, career at WKYC in question
Hollie Strano, a seasoned meteorologist who has served WKYC TV in Ohio since 2002, is well-known for her lively presence on the morning news programme “Go.” As of the 2023 update, Strano is not currently incarcerated. However, she was faced with legal issues in November 2023 when she was apprehended.
Despite being a long-standing and respected figure at WKYC, Strano’s arrest sparked concerns about her professional future. Although she is presently not in custody, her legal predicament and its potential impact on her career have sparked widespread interest.
Strano’s lawyer, Ian Friedman, has stated that she has accepted responsibility for her actions and is grateful for the support she has received during this difficult period. However, the future of her on-air presence at WKYC and overall career trajectory remains uncertain, with further developments anticipated in the wake of this legal situation.
Strano was arrested and charged with driving under the influence (DUI) in November 2023, marking a significant twist in her professional life. It was reported that officers from the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department responded to a suspected intoxicated driver around 7:30 p.m.
Strano was reportedly driving over the speed limit in a 35 mph zone on Akron-Peninsula Road, in her 2023 Cadillac XT5 SUV. Her inability to keep her vehicle within its lane resulted in a collision with a utility pole as she travelled from Cuyahoga Falls to Akron.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers noted the smell of alcohol and despite the collision, Strano refused medical treatment. Following her arrest, Strano was taken to the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department, where she underwent field sobriety and breath tests. The tests revealed her blood alcohol content (BAC) to be 0.244, more than three times the legal limit of 0.08 in Ohio.
Her court appearance resulted in a guilty plea to operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI), with the other charges dismissed. As part of her sentencing, Strano will attend a six-day treatment programme through the Ohio Driver Intervention Program. Her driving privileges are suspended for 15 days, followed by a one-year suspension with limited privileges. Furthermore, she was required to pay a fine and court costs.
In the aftermath of her arrest and legal proceedings, Strano has kept a relatively low profile. She has not appeared on WKYC broadcasts since the incident, and her current status remains undisclosed. Micki Byrnes, the general manager at WKYC Studios, has described the situation as a “personnel matter,” providing no additional insights into Strano’s future with the station. As privacy is a significant concern in such situations, the specifics of Hollie Strano’s current activities might be intentionally withheld from the public.
