In a continuing escalation of tension, Yemen’s Houthi group has launched a missile attack on a commercial ship, PROPEL FORTUNE, in the Gulf of Aden. The attack, targeting a Singapore-flagged vessel, resulted in no immediate casualties among the crew, according to reports.

According to a pro-government Coast Guard official, the incident occurred about 50 nautical miles off the coast of Aden on Friday. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations confirmed the attack, noting two blasts near the vessel, raising concerns about the safety of commercial shipping in the region.

This attack comes after a previous missile strike by the Houthis on the Barbados-flagged “TRUE CONFIDENCE” cargo ship, resulting in casualties among the crew. The Houthis have not claimed responsibility for the recent attack, but tensions have been escalating since November 2023, with the group targeting commercial shipping in retaliation for Israeli strikes in Gaza.
