The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes‘ opening weekend box office has propelled the Hunger Games franchise past a significant milestone. Based once again on source material from author Suzanne Collins, director Francis Lawrence’s new entry in the popular franchise chronicles the relationship between a young Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) and Rachel Zegler’s Lucy Gray Baird. The film, which takes place more than 60 years before Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen story, was met with somewhat mixed reviews from critics.
Now, per Deadline, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes‘ box office has debuted to $98 million worldwide. This figure means that, as a whole, the Hunger Games franchise has now grossed over $3 billion globally, an impressive feat.
