IT – Welcome to Derry Episode 2 Recap
The episode opens with Lilly getting nightmares of what happened to her friends in the last episode, while things at Ronnie’s house take a more intense turn as they wonder whether her father will be arrested for Matty’s disappearance. Meanwhile, the Hanlon family arrives in Derry and has a rather awkward start, with everyone giving them the side eye. As the Paul Bunyan statue gets erected, Charlotte is shocked to see a bunch of young boys bullying another boy, and no one is stopping them.

However, her family warns her to keep things low-profile, while General Shaw faces flak at the local bar for not arresting Hank Grogan. Meanwhile, the visions get stronger for Ronnie and Lilly as the latter is questioned (and threatened) to call Hank the perpetrator of the crime or face going back to Juniper Hill. Hank is arrested, while Leroy realises that the person arrested for threatening him isn’t the one who committed the crime. In the end, Shaw confesses that he tested Leroy to hire him for a specific purpose.

A guilt-ridden Lilly has a tough time coming to terms with what she did to Hank and, taking advantage of her fragile mental state, It decides to terrorise her in the convenience store, leaving her shaking and crying on the floor with a shattered pickle jar in front of her. Meanwhile, Leroy is introduced to Operation Precept, a classified DOD crash program trying to win the Cold War before things get ugly – they are basically trying to find It. Just then, they are called to the dig site, and they unearth a car with three skeletons, possibly the very car that was carrying Matty Clemens!
IT – Welcome to Derry Episode 2 Review

Things slowly ramp up for the Derry kids as terrors from different areas leave the residents, especially the kids, terrorised. Facing racism and supernatural threats alike, the episode delves into uncomfortable territories as we get first-hand accounts of what it was like to be “different” before people were educated about race issues. The blatant and horrible racism will leave most viewers disturbed, sometimes even more than It terrorising little kids.
That being said, these episodes are clearly a precursor to what’s to come. The series is only picking up steam at this point, but I would be lying if I said that I don’t feel a bit impatient.
