Jurgen Klopp shares verdict on Jarell Quansah’s Liverpool display

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hailed defender Jarell Quansah after turning in a superb display against Bournemouth on Wednesday night.

Jarell Quansah wowed Jurgen Klopp with his performance in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup victory over Bournemouth.

Liverpool headed down to the Vitality Stadium on Wednesday night, seeking to book a place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

The Reds duly obliged, with Cody Gakpo firing Liverpool in front before Justin Kluivert levelled it up for Bournemouth.

Darwin Nunez won it, curling home a stunning winner to set up a meeting with West Ham United in December.

Klopp unsurprisingly changed up his side for this game, sensing an ideal time to rotate and bring in fringe players.

One player who came into the side was defender Quansah, partnering Joel Matip in the heart of the Liverpool back line.

Quansah impressed again, racking up seven clearances, two interceptions and one tackle as Liverpool progressed.

The 20-year-old is showing real potential this season and Klopp was blown away by his performance against the Cherries.

Klopp told Liverpool’s official website that Quansah was ‘really good’ against Bournemouth and his quality was ‘obvious’.

Klopp stated that this was a ‘wow’ performance from Quansah, who produced a ‘top’ performance both in terms of defending in testing conditions and with the ball at his feet.

“That’s the other thing which was obvious: that he was really good,” said Klopp. “In these circumstances, wow. So many difficult balls to judge, to estimate, where is it coming down? He did really well. On the ball, Caoimhin [Kelleher] gave him the ball quite a lot and let’s see what he can do. He did really well there. Yes, top game, absolutely,” he added.

My view: Quansah adding valuable depth to Liverpool back line

Liverpool have a superstar defender in Virgil van Dijk, but he is 32 and younger options are needed around him.

Matip could go in 2024, Joe Gomez hasn’t really kicked on and questions linger over Ibrahima Konate’s injury record.

Liverpool allowed Nat Phillips, Sepp van den Berg and Rhys Williams to go out on loan, so Liverpool needed a youngster to step up.

Quansah has done just that, really impressing after a loan spell at Bristol Rovers last season.

Quansah looks like has the potential to become a regular contributor for Liverpool moving forward and Klopp’s comments only add to the excitement around him.
