Loki season 2 producer confirms there’s ‘no cliffhanger’ ending but a season 3 remains open

It feels like way too long since we’ve had the God of Mischief on our screens but the antagonist turned antihero has finally returned in an episodic sci-fi caper audiences can tune into weekly.

Loki made another entrance on Disney+ on Thursday, October 5th 2023 and even with its debut episode it’s arguable that season 2 is Marvel at its most conceptually ambitious on the small screen yet. Tom Hiddleston is as terrific as ever as Thor’s titular brother, and as we’ve already had one season the fans are beginning to form their expectations for the future. Indeed, the Loki season 2 ending and season 3 have already been addressed.

Loki season 2 ending has no cliffhanger

The Loki season 2 executive producer Kevin Wright recently opened up to Deadline about what to expect—or rather, what not to expect—from the forthcoming season finale.

“What I will say is it’s not a cliffhanger,” he revealed about the ending. “We want to be able to deliver real fulfillment in what we’re doing, but I do think it’ll be exciting and unexpected and everything people like about this show.”

Although there’s no cliffhanger to directly establish the finale as the next stepping stone for the MCU, Kevin added that “The implications will ripple into other projects… the TVA is an organization that will continue to have stories to tell, which is one of the exciting things about it to us.

Loki season 3 has been discussed

During the aforementioned interview, the producer was asked whether Loki has a five-season plan or whether they’re playing it by ear with subsequent seasons.

“We take it season by season,” Kevin clarified, “and there are certainly things that Tom [Hiddleston] and I and other casts have talked about of where we see this going, and I know there’s some excitement for that internally, but just from a storytelling standpoint, I think we always conceived of seasons 1 and 2 as a whole.”

He says he considers seasons 1 and 2 “chapters of the same book, and that season two is finishing that book,” with any potential seasons in the future serving as “new books.”

When is the Loki season 2 finale?

The Loki season 2 finale is scheduled to premiere on Thursday, November 9th 2023.

The current season will be made up of six episodes in total, just like the previous season. We anticipate news regarding renewal may emerge as early as November.

Loki season 2 is streaming exclusively on Disney+.
