Has Masamune-kun’s Revenge been renewed for season 2?

As of September 2023, Masamune-kun’s Revenge has not yet been publicly renewed for season 3, but what are the chances that the anime does return for a third broadcast?

Well, modern anime renewals typically depend on two main factors: The availability of source material from an original manga or light novel series, and the popularity of the wider franchise.

Season 2 of Masamune-kun’s Revenge adapted volumes 7 to 10 of the original manga series by Hazuki Takeoka. The good news is that 12 volumes of the manga have been published in Japan, meaning that there is source material available for a potential third season.

The anime should also prove popular enough to merit the resources needed to produce a third season of Masamune-kun’s Revenge. The recently concluded second season maintained above-average scores across the 2023 Summer anime broadcasting slate with ratings of 7.27/10 on MyAnimeList, 73% on Anilist, and 3.6/5 on Anime Planet.

Whilst these scores are certainly not high enough to guarantee season 3 being greenlit, the added boost to sales of the manga series should be strong enough to warrant a renewal.

Interestingly, back in 2022 the franchise released an April Fools illustration with Yoshino putting up a sign that said, “Season 3 Production Decision”, only for Aki to respond: “What a minute, what are you doing?! We need a 2nd season before the 3rd!”

This does not confirm that a third season is in the pipeline, but certainly that the production team is, at least, considering a continuation of the series – so, what date could Masamune-kun’s Revenge season 3 potentially release?

What date could Masamune-kun’s Revenge season 3 release?

As Masamune-kun’s Revenge has not yet been renewed for season 3, there remains no information on a targeted release window – but can we make some early predictions for when the anime could return?

Arguably the most limiting factor in the potential release date of Masamune-kun’s Revenge season 3 is the source material. Yes, there are two manga volumes left to adapt; however, the recent season covered four volumes in total, indicating that there might not be enough material just yet for another 12-episode broadcast.

Whilst there is a possibility that a theatrical movie could tie up the remaining source material, Silver Link may also choose to shelve the series temporarily in order for the sequel manga ‘Engagement’ to release more content – and then couple both publications together for season 3.

In this scenario, fans could see Masamune-kun’s Revenge return as soon as October 2024. Unfortunately, Silver Link themselves are set to be extremely busy over the next 12 months as they are set to work on Ragna Crimson (October 2023), Tearmoon Empire (October 2023), My Next Life as a Villainess movie (December 2023), Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable (January 2024), Mission: Yozakura Family (2024), and Sasaki to Pii-chan (2024).

Considering both the series popularity, availability of source material, and the current schedule for Silver Link – there is an above-average chance that Masamune-kun’s Revenge returns for season 3, but we might be waiting until late-2024, or more realistically, 2025.

If you can’t possibly wait that long, why not check out the original manga series in the meantime? 11 volumes have been published in English by Seven Seas Entertainment with physical copies available through Amazon, BAM, Indigo, Barnes & Noble, and Indiebound. Alternatively, digital versions are also available via Amazon Kindle, Kobo, Apple iBooks, Google Play, and Nook.

Masamune-kun’s Revenge is streaming on Crunchyroll.
