Today, we at Knight Edge Media can exclusively reveal that Netflix hired a slew of dancers for the final season of Avatar: The Last Airbender. The dancers were all local to Vancouver, Canada, where filming took place, and will appear in season 3 episode 1 under director Jabbar Raisani. The only two major dance sequences in season 3 of the original animated series were “The Headband” and “The Firebending Masters.” It’s possible the live-action series will actually adapt a version of The Headband even though it’s always been considered a filler episode. Since it’s only episode 2 of the original series.
It should be noted that most of the hirings were of adult-aged actors, though it’s not uncommon for adults to fill the role of younger background dancers in a production. In the original series, Aang visits a Fire Nation school and learns that it has a rigid (and fascist) educational system. The Fire Nation lies to their children about their genocide against the Air Nation 100 years prior, and the children’s forced lack of self-expression, including dancing, is strictly prohibited. The show was clearly inspired by the 80s hit Footloose. So he puts on a secret dance party for all the children to finally have fun. Though it is only speculation on when these dancers will be used in the live-action series.
