I have tried my best to keep the review as spoiler-free as possible, but there are certain elements that I had to mention to give proper feedback.

Solo Leveling Episode 6 Review and Recap: First Kill

Solo Leveling Episode 6 Review Ready To Be Hunted

This episode starts from the point where Jinwoo and Jinho are left to die inside the dungeon. The other members, along with the leader, discuss how they can now easily come back when the spider completes feeding on the victims and goes back to sleep. Even if they cannot defeat the spider, they can always take Jinho’s expensive armor and the crystals of the dungeon.

What they do not know is that Jinwoo is more than capable of handling the spider on his own. He has become more powerful since his last encounter with the snake monster. Plus, he now possesses many different magical items that have different powers. Not only that, but Jinwoo also got a new friend, Jinho, who will later become an important part of his life.

Jinho literally tries to protect Jinwoo when the other guild members decide to kill Jinwoo. His admiration also increases for the older hunter, when he witnesses just how powerful and amazing Jinwoo is, and later on, he starts calling him Big Brother out of respect.

This episode masterfully explores the psychological situation of Jinwoo, which is slowly changing from what it used to be. He is someone who has been ridiculed as weak all his life, and because of his weakness, he has been trampled on in the past. But now that he is strong, he must become stronger as otherwise, he will not survive the dungeon. Additionally, he also realizes that the system that is controlling him needs him to level up, and he needs the system to survive.

This give-and-take relationship and the cruel reality of survival of the fittest make Jinwoo snap, turning him into a new person altogether.

I also like that this anime introduces new characters in between the scenes of Jinwoo. You see and hear about other hunters as well. We learn how powerful Chaein, an S-ranked hunter is, and also witness a Guild master’s might who has long gone past his prime.

Even the background music was pretty good, and the fight sequences were absolutely thrilling.

Verdict

I loved this episode, as usual, and now, cannot wait to see Jinwoo grow more. I know there will be more challenges, and Jinwoo will ace them like a champ, but the way he fights and becomes stronger is way too cool for anyone to pass up.
