Soundtrack 2 Recap
The episode starts with K, Hyeon-seo and Su-ho discussing the surprising way that they find each other at the same time. K asks her to collaborate with him, with Su-ho is against at first. However, he quickly agrees to let them work at his house when he realises that they would work outside if he refuses them.
As the two of them start to work together, Su-ho clearly looks very jealous and lost as he thinks about the two of them playing the piano together in the past. It is clear after their jam that K has already grown close to her, which makes irritates Su-ho even more. As he grapples with his feelings, Hyeon-seo juggles her bills and seems to be down in the dumps thinking back to her music career. However, her thoughts are interrupted when K calls her to have a beer with him.
As they drink together, they discuss their love for music and piano and open up about their experiences. Meanwhile, a frustrated Su-ho finds K at his house, bursting with excitement. He is left shocked when he learns that Hyeon-seo has agreed to work with K, but more so when he realises that the two of them have been drinking together. Su-ho calls Hyeon-seo and asks her to meet him right then and there, and she is left shocked to find him standing outside her house, contract in hand.
He makes an excuse to ask her whether she has feelings for K, and her non-committal answer pushes him over the edge as he blabbers about telling K about their past and that it might be uncomfortable for them to work together. However, he also doesn’t want her to work with K at her own house, away from him. Thus, the intrusive thoughts keep him up at night as he continues to crib about not being okay with any of these things.
The next morning, however, he has the genius idea of asking Hyeon-seo to stay at his house, which she agrees to do in order to make the process smooth and quick. That night, she discusses with her friend her own feelings about the entire ordeal and mentions that K’s song makes her heart flutter and that’s why she wants to do this, in spite of Su-ho’s uncomfortable presence.
The next day, Hyeon-seo arrives at Su-ho’s house, much to both the men’s excitement. However, it is clear that she is drawn to K, which makes Su-ho annoyed, and he tries to overcompensate by giving her things. While having lunch together, Su-ho notices the mark on Hyeon-seo’s arm and opens up about his ambitions to become a YouTuber with K, telling him that even though his special person was harsh to him, he did everything to prove himself to her.
After a little light-changing session wherein jealousy and old feelings resurface, K helps Hyeon-seo with her scar on the wrist, which Su-ho notices. Afterwards, Hyeon-seo and Su-ho go on a walk together after neither is able to sleep, and he realises that Hyeon-seo had surgery on her wrist during the time of their Santiago trip. A surprised Su-ho asks her why she didn’t tell him, and she mentions that she would’ve broken up with him either way. Frustrated, he asks her why it would never have worked between the two of them, and she remains lost for words.
Soundtrack #2 Bonus Track
While drinking beer, Hyeon-seo agrees to work with K, reiterating that he didn’t pressurise her. While trying to make a living and deciding to give up on music, she decided to take up the job to bid a meaningful and beautiful goodbye to music before letting it go completely. This project is her last chance to do so.
Soundtrack 2 Review
The series continues to be a warm telling of human emotions, heartbreaks and passion. It’s nice to watch the scene where Su-ho and Hyeon-seo watch the origami YouTuber together but separately, and they talk to each other so freely. Although there are moments that might have been annoying otherwise, and the fact that all K-dramas always need to have that one moment wherein the leads refuse to have a mature conversation about anything, the short runtime contributes to the episodes not turning stale and keeps things moving.
All in all, it’s a good third episode that scratches the surface of what happened to the two all those years ago. Also, kudos to the cinematographer, editor and director for such a good-looking show. You might simply want to stare at the scenes because they are just so beautiful.
The series is streaming on Disney+.
