Trucker wins court case over flags saying: ‘F*** Biden and f*** you for voting for him’

A Louisiana trucker who was ticketed multiple times for flying flags that said, “F*** Biden and f*** you for voting for him,” has won in court and can display his anti-Biden sentiment proudly.

Ross Brunet and the Tulane First Amendment law clinic filed a lawsuit against the town of Grand Isle over the flags’ messages after officials repeatedly tried to stop him. In the small town on the barrier reef in the Gulf of Mexico, he was fined for flying the explicit messages in response to the president and his supporters which he asserts is free speech.

According to the suit, Brunet flew three flags on his truck, two of which featured vulgar language targeting the president and those who voted for him. The other one promoted breast cancer awareness.

“Brunet was ticketed seven times, according to the lawsuit. He successfully defended himself against four tickets. Despite winning those cases, he was later ticketed three more times. The last three cases were dropped after the town adopted an ordinance stating that signs on vehicles ‘shall not contain language deemed offensive and vulgar nor obscene in nature and cannot contain language that describes a sex act,’” the Associated Press reported.

Friday, Brunet and Grande Isle settled the lawsuit. The town agreed to rescind an order barring the flag from flying. They also have to pay Brunet $40,000 in attorney’s fees and damages.

The settlement stipulated that Brunet was “wrongfully cited for engaging in the constitutionally protected speech of flying flags with political message” by the city.

When the city kept fining him for his flags, the trucker filed a lawsuit in federal court that accused officials of infringing on his First Amendment free speech rights as well as his rights under the Louisiana Constitution. He vowed to stand by the suit and wasn’t willing to give an inch on it.

“Mr. Brunet’s speech has in fact been chilled,” the lawsuit contended. “He is fearful of and refrains from engaging in his protected political speech in Grand Isle, out of fear of government punishment or further retaliatory action.”

A federal judge will have to sign off on the settlement before Brunet is totally in the clear.

This is not the first case where something like this has happened.

In Roselle Park, New Jersey, a woman refused to take down her expletive-filled signs raging against Biden, despite her neighbors bitterly complaining. They asserted that the explicit messages were inappropriate for their children to see when walking to school.

“I’m not giving up. I don’t care what it costs me, I’m not giving up. I’m standing my ground,” Andrea Dick, the owner of the signs, declared according to TheBlaze.

In her case, the town filed a lawsuit against her. A New Jersey Superior Court judge threw out the case in July 2021.
