Tyler Cherry Takes on New Role at White House Despite Past Social Media Storm

A huge ruckus has been created by the White House’s appointment of Tyler Cherry, a former Interior Communications Director, as Associate Communications Director.

Tyler Cherry, well known for his controversial remarks, was forced to express regret for his earlier comments on social media.

Among the many comments Cherry made were dubbing the police as “slave patrols,” calling Republicans racist, and many other remarks that could be dubbed as controversial.

Tyler Cherry Appointed to White House Role

He is taking charge as Associate Communications Director to lead climate communication.

Tyler Cherry, who had worked earlier for Secretary Deb Haaland at the Interior Department, was appointed Associate Communications Director at the White House under the Joe Biden administration.

However, more than his work, Mr. Cherry was known for making controversial remarks which were often unbecoming for the senior posts he held.

Cherry’s new role involves handling communications at the White House Climate Policy Office. He will be working with National Climate Adviser Ali Zaidi and also coordinating with the White House press office on climate and energy policy announcements.

Here are some examples of the controversial statements made by Cherry in the past:

After massive riots following the murder of Freddie Gray, a Black man, in police custody in Baltimore in 2015, Cherry posted on X, saying,

“Praying for #Baltimore, but praying even harder for an end to a capitalistic police state motivated by explicit and implicit racial biases.”

A week later, he wrote,

“Apt time to recall that the modern-day police system is a direct evolution of slave patrols and lynch mobs.”

During the Gaza conflict in 2014, he professed his support for Palestine and said,

“Cheersing in bars to ending the occupation of Palestine — no shame and f— your glares #ISupportGaza #FreePalestine.”

He was also highly critical of Republicans on multiple occasions and once said,

“The Tea Party was never about the debt/deficit but about racism and white grievance politics.”

There are reports that Cherry was promoted despite stiff opposition from senior White House officials.

After a huge outcry, Cherry took to X to give his viewpoint on the issue and said,

“Past social media posts from when I was younger do not reflect my current views. Period.”

Tyler Cherry further added that he would support the Biden administration’s agenda and focus on climate and environmental policies.

Interestingly, the past controversial tweets by Tyler Cherry are no longer visible on Cherry’s current X account, and all tweets before April 2022 seem to have been deleted.
