US President Joe Biden has finally hung up his gloves and stepped aside, endorsing Kamala Harris as the Democratic Presidential Candidate.
Soon after this announcement, prominent Indian-American businessman Vinod Khosla called for an “open convention” for the Democrats to decide on a more moderate candidate.
This led to a public war of words with Tesla and SpaceX chief Elon Musk.

Vinod Khosla took to X and said,
“Time to have an open convention and get a more moderate candidate who can easily beat @realDonaldTrump. @GovWhitmer and @GovernorShapiro would be a great thing for America, not held hostage between MAGA extremists and DEI extremism. Unique opportunity for a better moderate path. Every socially liberal, climate, and fiscal voter should want it to balance our approach,”
The post immediately received a response from Musk, who is well known for supporting former US President Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance.
Musk posted on X,
“Come on, Vinod. Trump/Vance LFG!!,”
To this, Vinod Khosla asked Musk if he would like his kids to be like the Republican Party Presidential Candidate.
Khosla added that he cannot support a person like Donald Trump who lies, cheats, and demeans women even if he cuts the taxes or reduces some regulations.
There is no reason to accept the sinking of personal values.
Mr. Khosla also said Donald Trump will set back climate by a decade within one year of his governance
Vinod Khosla is a prominent venture capitalist as well as the co-founder of Sun Microsystems.
He is also one of the prominent Democratic political donors and is reported to have contributed $1.4 million in the current campaign.
The banter between the two did not end and became even more intense.
Musk shot back at Mr. Khosla and said that Trump did not hate him but likes him. He also suggested that Vinod Khosla meet Trump and clear the air. Musk went on and said no one is perfect including Trump, but we need a government which works on merit and also values individual freedom in place of an overbearing government.
Musk added that this was a characteristic of the Democratic Party, but now it is the Republican Party.
Vinod further countered this argument and said that it is no excuse to abandon climate change goals and drill for oil.
He also cautioned about possible Trump’s policy of abandoning NATO as well as American leadership and moral authority.
Musk in reply cautioned Vinod not to demonize an industry since civilization does need oil and gas for quite some time.
About abandoning NATO, Musk pointed out that the US is paying an abnormally high price for the defence of Europe when Europe is fully capable of doing so itself.
