Welcome to Samdal-ri episode 4 is here with the reunion of the soulmates of this island as we continue to dive deeper into the story. After the sweet and emotional last episode, we are moving on. The rom-com stars Ji Chang Wook, Shin Hye Sun, Seo Hyun-chul, Kim Mi-hwa, Yang Kyung-won, and Baek Hyun-joo alongside other cast members.
Directed by Cha Young-hoon, Welcome to Samdal-ri (웰컴투 삼달리) will have 16 episodes and be broadcast on JTBC in the Saturday-Sunday slot at 10:30 PM KST time slot previously occupied by Strong Girl Nam-soon. Welcome to Samdal-ri episode 4 has a run time of 65 minutes. It is titled ‘The Rotten Apple of My Eye’.

In this episode, we start from the year 2008. Yong-pil falls in love with Sam-dal, as the latter remains oblivious to it. In the present day, Sam-dal’s sisters are facing the brunt of the rumours. One of them ends up not getting her airline job while the other feels hurt as she reads hate comments about her sister. Even the mother cannot sleep at night.
On the other hand, Sam-dal is getting drunk with her friends. After her overwhelming downpour, we see Sam-dal get drunk and pass out. The next day, Sam-dal wakes up with a hangover in her house but, is unaware of how she got there. But she is right in time to stop her mother from going on the morning runs by confessing that the news on her is false. When her mother tells her to go back to the mainland to confront, Sam-dal gives a rather defeated answer making Ms. Ko go on her run after all.

Yong-phil catches Sam-dal’s mother on her run and tries to lighten her mood. It is not a miss completely. However, he also gets a note of advice from Ms. Ko who tells him that she shouldn’t cross paths with Sam-dal lest any of them get hurt. At the office, in a flashback we see that Yong-phil hurt himself while trying to take Sam-dal home, still showing his love for her. Although he thinks she has a boyfriend.
The scene cuts to Sam-dal’s ex in the parking lot waiting for Bang Eun-ju to take her things out of the studio. Eun-jo ends up taking away the Magazine X file in this process. On her way to work, Sam-dal’s mother’s friends make certain comments which drive her to bring Sam-dal to her workplace and let out the secret that Sam-dal’s boyfriend cheated on her with the mentee which caused friction and, she did not actually bully her. However, the story soon spreads like wildfire throughout Jeju.
Sam-dal’s phone is with Yong-pil all day and he finally gets a chance to return it to her. He tries to make her talk about the last night’s incident but it is a hit and a miss. However, he gets his confirmation that Sam-dal actually has a boyfriend. This leaves him distressed as the boyfriend is immature. Meanwhile, Sam-dal is worried that Yong-pil knows she has a boyfriend and suspects that he might doubt her of cheating on him. Her sisters reassure her that the neighbourhood knows about the cheating done by the boyfriend and Yong-pil will know it too.
The next morning, Sam-dal’s mother takes her and the other two sisters for seaweed collection. Although she says that Yong-pil won’t be there, the latter is actually present there and even talks to Sam-dal. Sam-dal overhears people asking Yong-pil to leave given Sam-dal dumped him. This confuses Sam-dal as in a flashback we get to know that it was Yong-pil is the one who dumped her instead. As one thing leads to the other, we end up seeing Sam-dal and Yong-pil fighting by throwing seaweed at each other.
Ms. Ko is disappointed at this. Later Sam-dal tries to confront Yong-pil about the narrative but, there isn’t much clarification. It ultimately comes down to people gossiping that something is wrong with Sam-dal, to begin with. When Yong-pil meets the others for a drink they tell him that Sam-dal has broken up already. Yong-pil asks Sam-dal about the same later on, getting another confession from Sam-dal for why she did what she did.
Welcome to Samdal-ri Episode 4 Epilogue
In the epilogue of Welcome to Samdal-ri episode 4 we see Yong-pil at a bar’s washroom prepping himself up to ask Sam-dal out. When he comes out of the washroom to ask her, Sam-dal is so drunk that she falls flat on the table. Yong-pil carries Sam-dal passed out drunk on his back. On the way they fall and the gift Sam-dal had in her bag slips out. Yong-pil opens the gift to find a scarf with a note from Sam-dal confessing that she likes him and what should she do next. As Yong-pil jumps in happiness, a passed-out Sam-dal gets a glimpse of it and smiles before completely passing out.
Welcome to Samdal-ri Episode 4 Review
It is getting fun, emotional and a whole lot more wholesome. There are snippets of Sam-dal and Yong-pil’s story from the past that await exploration and, it is a wait that we cannot keep calm about. The latest episode was filled with awkward and important moments and definitely takes the story forward in a meaningful manner.
