India News

New Delhi, March 22 (IANS) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has alleged that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was involved in a conspiracy to formulate the 2021-22 excise policy, favoring certain individuals and demanding kickbacks from liquor businessmen. The ED detailed Kejriwal’s direct role in shaping the policy, reportedly benefiting the ‘South Group’ and orchestrating it with others.
According to the remand application filed by the ED, Kejriwal, along with individuals like Vijay Nair and Manish Sisodia, played a significant role in formulating the excise policy. The agency highlighted Kejriwal’s influence through accounts of individuals closely associated with him, like former Secretary C. Arvind and chartered accountant Buchi Babu.
The ED claimed that Kejriwal received a draft report from Sisodia, which outlined granting wholesale licenses to private entities and fixing profit margins, without deliberation in the Group of Ministers’ meetings. Buchi Babu’s involvement came to light when certain policy provisions were found on his phone, allegedly given to him by Vijay Nair, a close associate of Kejriwal.
Furthermore, the ED’s investigation revealed Kejriwal’s alleged receipt of kickbacks from the ‘South Group’ in exchange for favorable treatment during policy formulation and execution. Statements from alleged ‘South Group’ members turned approvers in the case, Sarath Reddy, Raghav Magunta, and Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, supported this claim.
The ED also found a link between Kejriwal and the utilization of proceeds of crime, with nearly Rs 45 crore allegedly used for the Aam Aadmi Party’s election campaign in Goa. Statements from individuals involved in the campaign in Goa revealed cash payments for services, overseen by individuals like Vijay Nair, Durgesh Pathak, and AAP MLA in Delhi, Chanpreet.
In conclusion, the ED’s investigation alleges Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s direct involvement in a conspiracy related to the 2021-22 excise policy, kickbacks from the ‘South Group,’ and improper utilization of proceeds of crime for the AAP’s election campaign in Goa. The case continues to unfold as more details emerge.
