Sex Education is back on our screens and after season 3 left viewers hanging over the identity of the father of Jean Milburn’s baby, season 4 finally gives fans an answer.
*WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Sex Education season 4* — One of the key questions that was raised in the season 3 finale of Sex Education surrounded the identity of the father of Jean Milburn’s newborn baby, Joy, and season 4 of the Netflix series finally gets around to addressing that key question.
The mystery father of Jean Milburn’s baby in Sex Education
Season 2 of Sex Education ended with the surprise revelation that Jean Milburn was pregnant – which was miraculous, not only due to her age but also the fact that her partner Jakob had had a vasectomy.
Throughout season 3, she and Jakob attempted to mend their relationship after falling out with each other so that they could co-parent the child.
However, Jakob remained cautious about getting back into a relationship knowing Jean’s s and insisted on getting a paternity test done.
In the final episode of season 3, Jean finally received the results of said paternity test and while the show didn’t explicitly reveal what the letter said at the time, Jean’s reaction all but confirmed that Jakob wasn’t the father.
Who is the father of Jean Milburn’s baby?
The father of Jean’s baby in Sex Education is Dan, the motorbike man.
Dan appeared briefly in season 1 after having a one-night stand with Jean and was her last sexual partner before Jakob.
While the paternity test confirmed that Jakob was not the father, resulting in him leaving Jean, it did not explicitly reveal who Joy’s real dad was.
However, Jean bumped into Dan at the hospital in season 3, which seemed to be a not-so-subtle hint that he would be an important character in the near future, teasing that he is the baby’s real father.
In season 4, Dan appears again as Jean’s sister, Joanna, begins dating him, only for their fling to stop when Jean reveals that she is “95%” certain that he is Joy’s real father.
During the final episode of season 4, Jean invites Dan over to the house and we see her preparing to tell him the news that he is a father before the scene cuts away to Otis in his bedroom.
