The spectator who was killed in the gunfire during the assassination attempt on former President Trump has been identified as Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old volunteer fire chief. He had dived on his family to protect them from the gunfire. Corey gave his life while trying to protect his family and died a true heroic death.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro said at a news conference on Sunday,

“Corey died a hero.”

According to the Pennsylvania state police, two more persons sustained serious gunshot wounds: 57-year-old David Dutch and 74-year-old James Copenhaver. Both are now in stable condition.

The Pennsylvania governor also spoke to Mr. Comperatore’s wife and two daughters.

“Corey went to church every Sunday. Corey loved his community. Most especially, Corey loved his family.”

Shapiro added,

“I asked Corey’s wife if it would be okay for me to share that we spoke. She said ‘yes.’ She also asked that I share with all of you that Corey died a hero.”

Mr. Comperatore was a diehard supporter of former President Donald Trump and was very excited to participate in the rally on Saturday.

Mr. Shapiro added that Corey was the best of us and his memory will always be cherished. He added that the incident was shocking and political disagreements can never be addressed with violence.

Shapiro said,

“Corey was a girl dad.”

Shapiro said that he has instructed flags to be flown at half-staff in Corey Comperatore’s memory.
