Trick ‘r Treat director explains why the development of Trick ‘r Treat 2 has taken so long. Now, Dougherty reveals why Trick ‘r Treat 2 took so long to develop. I mean, I love all of our favorite horror franchise characters as much as any of us, but not all of them are great. And I know we’ve grown to love even the lesser chapters of our favorite horror series. There’s always a cheese value to them, but if I’m gonna do a sequel, I want it to be as good if not better than the original, and good things take time. The last thing I would want is to see ‘Trick ‘r Treat Part 9: Sam Goes to Space,’ you know? Although that does have potential, I will say.
What Is The Status of Trick ‘r Treat 2?
Told as multiple intercut short stories, Trick ‘r Treat is far from a conventional horror film. Trick ‘r Treat was a direct-to-DVD release, but nonetheless, the film gained a cult following over time. This following led to the hope for a sequel to as Trick ‘r Treat 2 was originally announced back in 2009.
Despite being announced two years after the original release, progress on Trick ‘r Treat 2 was slow. This year, however, has seen Dougherty much more active in speaking about Trick ‘r Treat 2, including the most recent news. Earlier this month, the director also mentioned that Trick ‘r Treat 2 has “several drafts of a script,” meaning that the film is still very much in the cards.
While the announcement of the script has not come with a release date, this increase in Trick ‘r Treat 2 updates is nonetheless hopeful for the film. Trick ‘r Treat 2 will not feature members of the 2007 Trick ‘r Treat cast. While this may be disappointing to viewers of the original movie, Trick ‘r Treat’s anthology format makes it such that the story can go in virtually any direction with multitudinous character possibilities. And if Dougherty’s most recent update is any indication, said characters will be well-thought-out by the time Trick ‘r Treat 2 fully enters production.
