Would You Marry Me Episode 8 Recap

The episode opens quietly at Me-ri’s home, where her mother notices her daughter hasn’t returned for dinner. She reaches for her phone but pauses as she recalls how excited Me-ri had been while getting dressed earlier that evening. Remembering her daughter’s bright smile and the sparkle in her eyes, she decides not to interrupt. She realises something beautiful must be happening between Me-ri and Woo-joo, and for once, she lets her daughter be free.

Meanwhile, Me-ri and Woo-joo walk hand in hand through the open fields where their childhood memories linger. The air is warm, filled with a sense of nostalgia and healing. As they reminisce, Woo-joo reveals a heartbreaking truth: right after Me-ri’s father saved his family from the accident, his own parents passed away the next day. Me-ri gently tells him he should not blame himself for her father’s death. She assures him that her father’s kindness was unconditional, not something that caused his fate.

Woo-joo admits that years ago, he tried to see her during a summer break. He left cans of orange juice at her front gate as a silent gesture but walked away after overhearing her conversation with her mother. He had misunderstood her words, thinking she blamed him for her father’s death. Me-ri smiles softly and tells him that if he had stayed longer, he would have heard what came next — her mother had said that Woo-joo’s family accident had nothing to do with her father’s sacrifice. Woo-joo feels a wave of regret for walking away so soon, but Me-ri reassures him that the past no longer matters. Together, they decide to start anew.

In the field, Me-ri looks up at the night sky and points to the brightest star, saying she believes it is her father watching over her. Woo-joo laughs and teases her, saying it is probably a satellite. Their playful banter turns into laughter, and in a lighthearted moment, Woo-joo carries her on his back, only to trip and fall. They both burst out laughing, but their laughter soon softens into a tender kiss and a warm embrace.

Back at Me-ri’s house, Woo-joo is given her sister’s room to rest. When he calls Me-ri for help to chase away a bug, it turns into a sweet excuse to hold her close. He gently pulls her into his arms, and they fall asleep together, wrapped in a quiet comfort.

The next morning, Me-ri’s mother prepares a traditional dish usually served to a son-in-law. Over breakfast, the three share a heartfelt conversation about Me-ri’s future. Later, they visit the funeral home to pay respects to Me-ri’s late father, marking his death anniversary with quiet emotion.

Back in Seoul, Jin-gyeong is filled with guilt for meddling in Woo-joo and Me-ri’s relationship. Overcome by sadness, she breaks down in front of Sang-hyun. He, ever calm and thoughtful, invites her to join him on his nightly run, saying it might help her heal. As they run, Jin-gyeong’s emotions pour out, and she sprints ahead, crying as she lets go of her pain. Sang-hyun simply watches, understanding that some wounds need silence more than comfort.

Meanwhile, Han-gu leaves for America on a supposed business trip. His son, Eung-soo, senses that something is wrong but holds himself back from interfering. He feels sympathy for his mother, who continues to be neglected by his father. In America, Han-gu’s real intentions are revealed — he is secretly plotting to con the company and build a new life with his other family.

Elsewhere, Wu-ju is furious about Me-ri and Woo-joo growing close. Believing Woo-joo is just an employee at Myungsoondang, he tries to sabotage him. However, when he reaches the company and overhears that Woo-joo is actually the heir, he is left humiliated. Later that night, he drowns his sorrow at a karaoke bar, singing breakup songs through tears, realising Me-ri has truly found someone better.

Back at Myungsoondang, Me-ri and Woo-joo keep their relationship a secret. To celebrate the success of their new product, Woo-joo’s grandmother invites the marketing team for lunch. During the meal, her wise words about honesty strike a chord in Me-ri. She begins to feel guilty for involving Woo-joo in the fake marriage plan.

When Jin-gyeong visits the house, Me-ri overhears her colleagues whispering about how perfect Jin-gyeong would be as Woo-joo’s fiancée. The remarks sting, making her heart heavy with doubt. Yet, Jin-gyeong surprises everyone by telling Woo-joo’s grandmother that she sees him only as a brother, not as a romantic partner.

That night, Woo-joo senses Me-ri’s sadness and calls her, inviting her out to cheer her up. She gets ready eagerly, heart fluttering, and opens the door expecting to see Woo-joo. But to her shock, it is Wu-ju standing there — holding the marriage certificate. He has uncovered the truth behind the fake house scheme carried out in his name, and his expression says it all.

The first half glows with warmth as Me-ri and Woo-joo finally confront their past and let go of long-held guilt. Their scenes in the field are especially touching, filled with childhood nostalgia, forgiveness, and playful affection that blossoms into genuine love. Me-ri’s mother’s quiet acceptance and the serene family moments at home add emotional depth, giving the episode a comforting, almost poetic calm before the inevitable storm. It’s in these small gestures — a shared meal, a soft kiss, a whispered apology — that the show’s heart truly shines.

But just when everything seems perfect, the second half delivers a sharp twist. Jin-gyeong’s guilt, Sang-hyun’s silent compassion, and Han-gu’s scheming in America build a tense backdrop to the drama’s larger conflicts. Yet the final minutes steal the spotlight as Wu-ju reappears, holding the marriage certificate that threatens to expose Me-ri’s secret. The quiet intimacy of earlier scenes gives way to a pulse of dread, ending the episode on a gripping cliffhanger.
