Chelsea make contact to sign ‘fantastic’ summer Tottenham target

Chelsea are now making moves for Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba after Tottenham Hotspur wanted him.

Edmond Tapsoba is emerging as a real target for Chelsea as they look to sign another centre back in 2024.

That is according to TEAMtalk, who claim that Chelsea have already made enquiries into a potential deal for Tapsoba.

The Blues have spent over £1billion in the Todd Boehly era but continue to struggle for consistent results.

That means more spending may be on the way in 2024 with another centre back seemingly on Mauricio Pochettino’s wish list.

Chelsea want Edmond Tapsoba

TEAMtalk now claim that Chelsea are desperate to land another centre back and have five names on their list of targets.

The list currently features Sporting’s Ousmane Diomande, Benfica’s Antonio Silva, Lille talent Leny Yoro and Crystal Palace’s ex-Chelsea ace Marc Guehi.

The other name on the list is Tapsoba, with Chelsea allegedly ‘sounding out the possibility of a deal’ ahead of January.

Tapsoba signed a new deal with Leverkusen in September, committing his future to the Bundesliga club until the summer of 2028.

It’s now claimed that Chelsea aren’t put off by that new deal and are still making moves for Tapsoba in the hope of what would surely be an expensive deal.

Tottenham looked into Tapsoba deal

Chelsea could now pounce for Tapsoba after Tottenham Hotspur explored a summer move for the Burkina Faso international.

Fabrizio Romano reported in July that Tottenham had made Tapsoba their top defensive target for the summer.

Spurs appeared to be very keen but ended up signing a different Bundesliga defender, landing Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg instead.

That deal has been a masterstroke from Tottenham, with Van de Ven forming a superb partnership alongside Cristian Romero.

Tottenham’s interest in Tapsoba has surely gone now and that may pave the way for Chelsea to swoop in and bring him to London after all.

Tapsoba has been hailed as a ‘fantastic’ player by Leverkusen director Simon Rolfes and Chelsea will surely have to dig deep to make this deal happen.
