Jesus Ayala is accused of deliberately running over Probst, 64, in a stolen Hyundai Elantra on Aug. 14. Jzamir Keys, 16, was reportedly with him and egged Ayala on to murder the man. There is little doubt about the event that day because it was all caught on video taken by Keys on his phone.

Ayala had just turned 18 when he killed the white former police chief. He was arrested just hours afterward, allegedly informing police that he wouldn’t be behind bars for long.

“You think this juvenile [expletive] is gonna do some [expletive]? I’ll be out in 30 days, I’ll bet you,” Ayala told them, according to KLAS. “It’s just ah, [expletive] ah, hit-and-run — slap on the wrist.”

The media outlet reported that at the time, Ayala had not been told by police about the hit-and-run charges. He originally was arrested for a warrant and obstructing a peace officer.

Ayala was slapped with 18 charges including murder, attempted murder, and grand larceny. He is currently residing at the Clark County Detention Center and is being held without bail.

Keys was arrested after he was videoed getting into a fight. He was linked to the murder because of the white tennis shoes he was wearing in both videos. He is facing three charges, including murder.

Ayala and Keys got their first day in court on Thursday where they are being charged as adults. During their brief appearances, the teens did not speak and were not asked to enter a plea. Attorneys talked for them in front of the judge.

The two teens’ cases are being addressed separately due to the timing of their arrests. Keys wasn’t captured until Tuesday.

“Both these defendants will be charged with open murder, attempted murder, and many other related charges,” Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson told reporters outside the courtroom.

Prosecutors are seeking a high bail. Wolfson called the two teens a danger to the community.

“The events in these cases are related,” he claimed. “I’m very confident these cases will be consolidated.”

The video of the horrific murder shows the two teens running the stolen car into Probst, laughing, and saying, “Hit his ass.”

“Damn that n***a got knocked out!” Keys says as the driver can be heard stepping on the gas.

The footage shows the former police chief being slammed from behind, being tossed over the hood, and then being left to die.

Probst’s widow, Crystal Probst, and daughter, Taylor Probst, were both in court Thursday for the proceeding. They left right after it ended and did not speak with reporters.

“I don’t know why he did this,” Ayala’s mother told KLAS Wednesday in an interview. “I don’t know if God can forgive this.”

“My son’s side of the story will be told, ‘the truth,’ not the inaccuracies the media will try to portray,” Keys’ mother said via a text to KLAS.

Prosecutors will not be seeking the death penalty in the two cases. Under Nevada law, suspects face 20 years to life in prison if they are convicted of committing a crime before they turn 18 years old.

On the day they killed Probst, the two teens were accused of going on a crime spree. They also reportedly tried to kill a 72-year-old bicyclist while in a stolen Hyundai sedan. After they hit him, they crashed into a Toyota Corolla and drove away. That was before they hit and killed Probst.

After the murder, they went on to allegedly steal two other cars before crashing them into each other.

The stolen Hyundai Elantra that killed Probst was found abandoned in a ditch with blood on the windshield, 10 minutes from where he was hit.
