Godzilla x Kong Director Teases 8-Minute Titan Battle (With NO Humans)

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire director Adam Wingard has teased an eight-minute fight scene between the movie’s Titans, without any humans intervening. The upcoming entry in the Monsterverse sees Kong discover a tyrannical ape called the Skar King somewhere within the Hollow Earth. Recruiting the aid of Godzilla, the former rivals team up to take down the new threat to Earth.

Speaking with IGN, Wingard teased just how much of the upcoming Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will focus on the movie’s monsters. The director teases an eight-minute sequence of the Titans possibly clashing, their time together uninterrupted by human scenes. Check out what Wingard had to say below:

So much of the film is entirely animated CG shots; so much of it is just pure imagination. We have some sequences going up to about eight minutes long, where it’s just the monsters doing their thing, and so the movie really allows the monsters to tell their own narrative in a visual, nonverbal way.

Why Godzilla x Kong Should Focus More On The Monsters

The main premise of the upcoming Titan team-up has the two front and center as they try and thwart a new threat to the world. Much like previous Monsterverse entries, Godzilla x Kong‘s human cast is made of familiar faces like Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, and Kaylee Hottle, all returning from Godzilla vs Kong. However, it’s clear from the film’s premise that the monsters and their struggle will be the most important part of the film.

By focusing more on the Titans than the humans, the movie will be able to better humanize the Titans while clarifying their purpose in the story. Instead of being vehicles for a tale centered around humans, Godzilla and Kong will drive the narrative forward with their own motivations to keep the planet safe. This could mean extensive scenes of the duo deciding to put their pasts behind them, alongside high-octane battles with the Skar King and his army.

With new additions to the series like Godzilla’s pink atomic power and Kong’s mechanical gauntlet, it seems Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire‘s Titans will have plenty of exciting surprises up their sleeves. This could mean even more monsters and powers are in store, adding to the intensity of the movie. With the film slated for release on April 12, 2024, it won’t be long until more of its monster-centric story is revealed.
