‘He was on his way out’: Tim Sherwood wowed by ‘excellent’ Tottenham 27-year-old

Tim Sherwood thinks Yves Bissouma was ‘on his way out’ of Tottenham Hotspur.

Even though Yves Bissouma was signed by Antonio Conte last summer, he struggled to make his mark on a Spurs side that finished outside of Europe.

Just like this current campaign, Tottenham were flying high during the early months of the 2022/23 season, before falling flat on their face.

Yves Bissouma struggled to earn starts in a team that struggled so much, with Tim Sherwood claiming that ‘no-one was talking about him being any good’, as he told Premier League Productions (09/10/23 at 2:25 pm).

But now that talk has completely changed, not just for the midfielder, but the team itself.

Ange Postecoglou has played a huge part in that because he has lifted a previously morale-sapped club that is now sitting at the top of the Premier League table.

Yves Bissouma’s change in form

“Bissouma is a great example, for me,” said Sherwood. “He was on his way out. No-one was talking about him being any good.

“But he is more than that. He is an excellent footballer. He is showing his attributes now for a manager who wants to put his arm around him and show him some love and really express him in the correct light.

“I think this manager has to take an awful lot of credit. He has worked tirelessly on the training pitch. He has got the message across. Put the belief into the group of players.”

Tottenham’s midfield

Ever since Mauricio Pochettino headed for the exit door, the midfield has been one of the club’s biggest issues.

From Tanguy Ndombele to Giovani Lo Celso, big money has been spent on midfield players, yet they haven’t been able to move the club forward.

But there is now that hope with the likes of Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr and James Maddison.
