Egwene endures an awful experience as a prisoner of the Seanchan in episode 6 of The Wheel of Time season 2 but does she eventually manage to escape?

*WARNING: Spoilers ahead for The Wheel of Time season 2, episode 6* — Season 2 of The Wheel of Time has not been easy for Egwene al’Vere, especially in the most recent episodes of the Prime Video series which have seen Madeleine Madden’s character suffer a torrid time after being taken prisoner by the Seanchan.

Egwene’s plight in The Wheel of Time

In episode 5 of The Wheel of Time season 2, Egwene was taken prisoner after she, Elayne and Nynaeve arrived in the town of Falme, hoping to find Perrin who they believed to be in danger.

When the Seanchan captured her, Egwene had a metal collar, known as an a’dam, put around her neck which prevents her from channeling to use magic, making her a damane, a ‘leashed one.’

Throughout episode 6, Egwene is tortured and humiliated by a character called Renna, who is a sul’dam, a person who controls a damane, and tries to bend Egwene to her will.

Renna orders Egwene to pour her a cup of water from a jug she brings into her cell. But every time Egwene reaches for the jug, her a’dam collar causes her incredible pain as it prevents her from touching any object that she believes could use as a weapon. By the end of the episode, however, Egwene is able to pick up the jug of water, showing that her spirit has finally been broken and that she won’t attack Renna.

How does Egwene escape the Seanchan in The Wheel of Time?

In The Wheel of Time books, Egwene is rescued from her captivity in Falme by Elayne, Nynaeve and Min.

Together, the trio manages to steal a pair of a’dam collars and use them to incapacitate Renna and another sul’dam named Seta.

This allows them to free Egwene from her cell and remove the a’dam that had been hindering her powers.

After being freed, Egwene takes her frustrations out on Renna, using the a’dam to punish her just as she had been – that is until the others stop her before she goes too far.

Before leaving, the girls lock Renna and Seta in Egwene’s old cell and leave them to be found the next time the cells are checked.
