Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been hailed over in the Netherlands after scoring the winner against Greece on Monday night.

Virgil van Dijk has been praised in the Dutch media after proving to be the match-winner for the Netherlands against Greece.

Liverpool players are featuring for their countries all around the world and Jurgen Klopp will just be hoping that they return to Anfield unscathed.

The Reds have a big game against rivals Everton coming this weekend and the more players fit and firing, the better.

Virgil van Dijk earns praise after Netherlands win

Liverpool fans and staff will have been watching closely with Virgil van Dijk in action for the Netherlands on Monday night.

Van Dijk was taking on Liverpool teammate Kostas Tsimikas as the Netherlands faced Greece over in Athens.

This looked like petering out into a 0-0 draw before Van Dijk stepped up to score an injury-time penalty for the Netherlands.

The Dutch had already squandered one penalty with Wout Weghorst failing to score before Van Dijk took charge and converted from 12 yards late on.

Van Dijk earned major praise in the Netherlands, with Algemeen Dagblad rating him at 8 out of 10.

They suggested that the £220,000-a-week defender was a ‘tower of strength’ and that he ‘radiated’ in Athens.

Voetbal Primeur also went with an 8 out of 10 rating, suggesting that Van Dijk was ‘strong’ throughout a Dutch victory.

Klopp and co will now be looking for Van Dijk to carry that kind of form into Saturday’s game with Everton.

The 32-year-old may have suffered a dip in recent times but he is still one of the top centre backs in world football.

Van Dijk is showing that with his country and he would no doubt love to play a key role in a big Merseyside derby win this weekend.
