‘Quality player’: Mido amazed by one Tottenham player who is ‘like a pitbull’ without the ball

It has been some start to the season for Tottenham Hotspur, Ange Postecoglou and Yves Bissouma.

In truth, the team had made a not-too-dissimilar start under Antonio Conte 12 months ago, but their summer capture from Brighton & Hove Albion was yet to get going then.

That feeling of not yet going and struggling to find form continued for Yves Bissouma, as Tottenham then began to decline on the pitch, as well as unwanted noise off it.

The midfield was one of the main issues, with a lack of balance, rhythm, bite and athleticism, up until the arrival of Ange Postecoglou this summer.

As former player Mido mentioned, there is now ‘balance’ to the midfield, Yves Bissouma looks like a ‘quality’ player and he is like a ‘pitbull’ when trying to recover the ball back, as he told talkSPORT (09/10/23 at 8:55 am)

Take your pick. James Maddison. Micky van de Ven. Or Yves Bissouma. As Spurs sit top of the Premier League table, many can argue that they have been the standout performers during these opening eight matches under the very popular, Ange Postecoglou.

Mido lauds Tottenham’s midfield

“I really like Bissouma,” said Mido. “Quality player. Sarr is a quality player. The balance between them and the middle of the park.

“I don’t think Tottenham had this balance in the middle for years now – the balance between Bissouma and Sarr is just perfect.

“One drops deep and is very good on the ball. And he is like a pitbull when loses the ball and he tries to get it back as quickly as he can.

“And Sarr can cover yards on the pitch. He can dribble with the ball. It’s a great balance.”

Who starts instead of Bissouma?

After the international break, Spurs will host Marco Silva’s Fulham on Monday night, with Bissouma suspended after his sending-off against Luton Town.

At Luton, it was Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, whose future at the club is unclear, who came on as a half-time sub.

There could be every chance that he is handed his first league start by Postecoglou for the visit of Fulham and it’s one, given his situation, he will want to take with both hands.
