Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham on track to rival huge Cristiano Ronaldo record

Jude Bellingham is enjoying a phenomenal start to his Real Madrid career, so could the England midfielder go on and beat Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal record for the Galacticos?

The 20-year-old is fast emerging as the new King of La Liga having hit the ground running at the Santiago Bernabeu. Bellingham has not stopped scoring since signing for Real Madrid in the summer. He has fired home 10 times over just 11 appearances in all competitions so far.

Bellingham moved to Real Madrid in June after the Galacticos paid Borussia Dortmund up to £115m. The deal saw Los Blancos spend an upfront £88.5m on the Birmingham City product just three years after he left the Second City. He has since laid on three assists so far, as well.

Such has been Bellingham’s brilliant start with Real Madrid, the Stourbridge native is on track to rival Ronaldo’s goal record. The 38-year-old is Los Blancos’ all-time top scorer with 450 in just 438 games. He also laid on 131 assists playing in a more advanced role than Bellingham.

Ronaldo achieved his record goal tally over nine years with Real Madrid from 2009 to 2018. Should Bellingham also spend nine years at the Santiago Bernabeu and maintain his superb scoring form, he could rival Ronaldo with 398 goals in a theoretical 438 Real Madrid fixtures.

That is based on Bellingham matching Ronaldo’s average of 32.4 La Liga games per season, plus 4.1 domestic cup ties and 12.1 European or international cup games. Ronaldo averaged 48.6 matches and 50 goals a season and scored his most goals in a term with 61 in 2014/15.

Bellingham scoring 398 goals for Real Madrid would place the England midfielder second to Ronaldo in Los Blancos’ record goalscorer list, according to stats provided by Stattogories.

Karim Benzema is currently second on 354 goals in 648 games. If you think you could name Real Madrid’s other top goalscorers of all time you can take the Stattogories quiz to find out.

Despite Bellingham enjoying a sensational start at Real Madrid, it is unlikely that he will rival Ronaldo’s Galacticos goal record. The England wonderkid playing in midfield, rather than on a wing or as a centre-forward like the Portugal icon, will ultimately hamper his actual threat.

It would also be an absurd feat for the 20-year-old to maintain his current pace. Bellingham looks set to enjoy an incredible career at the Bernabeu, though. He has already impressed a few of his Real Madrid teammates including Luka Modric in his short time at the club so far.

To put Ronaldo’s record into context, Zinedine Zidane scored 49 times in 227 games from midfield. Even Benzema, who featured in 210 more games, failed to reach Ronaldo’s record.

Instead, Bellingham is more likely to finish near Francisco ‘Paco’ Gento and Pirri in the lower ebbs of the top 10 in Real Madrid’s record goalscorers list, should he stay for nine years. He is by no means guaranteed to enjoy nine seasons with the Galacticos like Ronaldo, after all.
