  • Giddish is confirmed to reprise her role as Amanda Rollins in the season premiere of Law & Order: SVU season 25.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Kelli Giddish will be returning as Detective Amanda Rollins. Giddish originally joined the show’s main cast in season 13 after the departure of Christopher Meloni, who played Sr. Detective Elliot Stabler on the first 12 seasons of the long-running procedural drama. Giddish originally departed the series midway through season 24 but returned for the season finale, which was a crossover with Law & Order and Law & Order: Organized Crime.

Per TVLine, Giddish is set to reprise her role as Amanda Rollins once more in the upcoming season premiere of Law & Order: SVU season 25. The plot of the episode remains under wraps. So far, her reappearance is only limited to one episode, though it remains to be seen if she returns for more.

What’s Next For Amanda Rollins In Law & Order: SVU?

Although she has only been absent from the show for a short time, a lot has happened to Amanda Rollins since she left the show in 2022. This includes her taking up a position as an instructor at Fordham University, teaching criminal behavior. She and her new husband Assistant District Attorney Sonny Carisi (Peter Scanavino) are also pregnant with their third child.

Though Giddish departed the show, Scanavino is still part of the main cast of SVU.

It seems that Giddish’s return to the cast could be a continuation of the storyline set up in the Law & Order: SVU season 24 finale. That episode saw her revealing her dissatisfaction with teaching and finding that she misses being able to solve mysteries every day. While the new episode could see Rollins return to her old job, it doesn’t necessarily mean she will remain on the show full-time, as she could take a role in a different unit.

Giddish’s impending second Law & Order: Special Victims Unit return could potentially be telling, however. The star did not leave the show of her own volition, as her departure reportedly came after contract negotiations with producers stalled. Her willingness to continue reprising her role could mean that that professional relationship is being rebuilt in a mutually satisfactory way that could potentially lead to a full return.

Law & Order: SVU season 25 premieres on NBC on January 18, 2024 at 9:00 P.M.
