Summary

  • Sweet Home Season 2 proves that the show cannot have a happy ending, with tragic deaths and bleak circumstances for the characters.
  • Ji-su’s death in season 2, episode 3 was one of the most impactful and tragic deaths in the show, setting a somber tone for the rest of the season.
  • The deaths in season 2 indicate that Sweet Home will likely bid farewell to multiple fan-favorite characters and will not end on a happy note, despite the possibility of a satisfying ending for Hyun-su.

Sweet Home season 2 killed off one of the show’s most beloved characters, and it proved that the series cannot have a happy ending. From creatures that feed on humans to people who are even scarier than the monsters themselves, Sweet Home is always dealing with tragedies. Despite it being one of the best Korean dramas on Netflix, it does not seem like Sweet Home will have an ending that will be consistent with what the series has done so far and that does all characters justice at the same time.

A horror show like Sweet Home is expected to kill off important names. However, given how things continue to get worse as the story progresses, most of the original Sweet Home characters who have been on the show since season 1 might be dead by the time season 3 concludes. Sweet Home season 2’s ending saw a popular character dying, but the most tragic death happened earlier, in episode 3.

Ji-su Dies In Sweet Home Season 2, Episode 3

Ji-su (Park Gyu-young) who had just moved to the Green Home back in Sweet Home season 1, dies in season 2, episode 3. Both Ji-Su and Eun-yu (Go Min-si) became leaders in their group after the fall of the building, guiding the elderly and the children into the uncertainty of the military-ruled safety zones. Sweet Home suggested that Ji-Su would be front and center in the new season, perhaps serving as an opposite to Eun-yu. However, in one of the most tragic deaths in the show, Ji-su died after the military attacked their citizens with missiles, hoping to prevent new monsters from being awakened.

While Ji-su survived the initial attack, her legs got stuck in the wreckages. Sweet Home season 2, episode 3 does not show Ji-su’s death, but it cuts to black right as the entire structure is about to collapse. Ji-su couldn’t move, and she said goodbye to Eun-yu with her eyes. Ji-su’s death was followed by a year-long time jump, which shows how her death was supposed to be an impactful moment that would redefine the season. Sweet Home’s post-time jump episodes have a somber note to them, and that shift in tone comes from Ji-su’s death.

Sweet Home Season 2’s Deaths Mean The Show Can’t Have A Happy Ending

Several characters died in Sweet Home season 2, including some of the surviving Green Home residents from season 1. Ji-Su’s death may have been the season’s saddest, though, as viewers have been following her journey since she first arrived at the building. Regardless, the events of Sweet Home season 2, especially nearly before and after the time jump, are a reminder that the show will likely not have a happy ending. Even if Hyun-su (Song Kang) does find a satisfying ending to his journey, it is difficult to imagine that Sweet Home can end on a happy note. By the time the show concludes, it will have bid farewell to multiple fan-favorite names.

Sweet Home season 3 is happening, and it will likely start right where season 2 ended. It’s still unclear who the show’s endgame villain will be, but there is no shortage of options. Yi-kyung (Lee Si-young)’s daughter transforming her mother into a monster, and Sargeant Tak (Yu Oh-seong) commanding infectees to be exterminated even though he is secretly one of them, are just some other examples of how bleak things have become in Sweet Home. Even if things get better by the end of the show, Hyun-su and his friends will still have to go through a lot.
