Conduct by members of the Columbus Division of Police was at the center of an investigation from the Columbus Inspector General after a viral video called into question their behavior when responding to concerns that an 11-year-old girl had become the victim of a child predator. That investigation was sparked by the upset father posting doorbell footage to social media featuring apparent threats of charges after the child had been “manipulated by a grown a** adult on the internet.”

Posted to TikTok the footage captured officers knocking on the father’s front door around midnight, hours after he initially placed a call on the evening of Sept. 14, according to WCMH.

When the distraught father answered the door, he could be heard voicing his concern over discovering that his daughter had allegedly been sent, and manipulated into sending, graphic images over the internet.

To his concern, the responding officer stated, “I mean, she could probably get charged with child porn.”

“Who? She can?” the man wondered. “She’s 11-years-old.”

“She’s creating it, right?” the officer responded and added of the child’s age, “Doesn’t matter. She’s still making porn.”

Correcting the officer’s take on the situation, the father was soon to dismiss them from his porch after he contended, “No she’s not. She’s being manipulated by a grown a** adult on the internet.”

Audio from the bodycam footage shared by WCMH captured remarks from the cop as she left the scene and added, “She’s taking pictures of herself naked, she’s creating child porn. Is that wrong?”

Prior to their arrival at the Ohio home,  the father’s call to 911 had included his explanation, “[The alleged predator] has already gotten her to send him inappropriate pictures of her and I still have it logged into her phone. I didn’t know if you send someone out here, maybe they could — I don’t know — they could do something about it.”

Following the video going viral, Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant issued a statement regarding the conduct of the officers in question that began, “My expectation is that our officers treat every victim of crime with compassion, decency, and dignity. What I saw in that video did not reflect that — which is why we referred this case to the Inspector General.”

“I want to make clear — this incident does not reflect the division as a whole. Our officers do outstanding work to bring comfort and justice to victims every day,” she continued. “As soon as we learned of this incident, we immediately reached out to the father to apologize, and to assure that this matter was being fully investigated — both the actions of this officer, and more importantly, any crime committed against his child.”

A case had since been opened with the Department of the Inspector General and Columbus Inspector General Jacqueline Hendricks told Fox News Digital, “The Columbus DIG takes each and every citizen complaintfiled with our office seriously. The purpose of the purpose of the Columbus DIG is to ensure the actions of sworn personnel of the CPD are constitutional and in compliance with the City of Columbus and CPD’s policies and procedures and all applicable laws.”

The report from WCMH indicated that the unnamed officers under investigation had not been suspended during their review. Meanwhile, reactions called out the need of the video to “publicly shame” the police into investigating the matter.
