‘A bit more money’: Tottenham sent Daniel Levy and January transfer window message

Tim Sherwood thinks Ange Postecoglou might be given ‘a bit more money’ to spend by Daniel Levy if Tottenham Hotspur continue in their current ways.

Not even Daniel Levy or the most ardent of Tottenham supporters would have envisaged the club sitting top of the Premier League table after eight games.

As a result of that, Tim Sherwood thinks that Ange Postecoglou has given those in the transfer room ‘a little bit of belief’ that they can push the boat out again, as he told Premier League Productions (09/10/23 at 2:30 pm).

In the summer, amid the exit of Harry Kane, money was splashed, including the big-name capture of James Maddison, as well as the Deadline Day arrival of Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest.

The signing of James Maddison has transformed this previously morale-sapped and creative-less side, with the 26-year-old assisting five and scoring two from his eight league games.

That signing, as well as the likes of Micky van de Ven, is proof that Spurs should go again during the winter, especially if they are near or at the top of the Premier League table.

Tottenham January transfer window

“I think the manager has given the board of directors and the head of recruitment a little bit of belief there that he knows what he is doing and he can improve players,” said Sherwood.

“Before the recruitment looked poor. Players who looked poor are no longer looking poor. I mean Maddison has looked an unbelievable signing and they brought him in.

“Get in there, in and around Christmas time. Be there or thereabouts. The window opens in January. Daniel Levy might have trust in this manager because ‘you know what, I will give you a little bit more money’.

“And they might need that little push to get them over the line. Who knows? This is wide open. This Premier League is wide open.”

Pressure off Daniel Levy?

There were many periods last season when Spurs fans were calling for Levy’s head given that the club was going backwards.

Protests before the game. Chants of ‘we want Levy out’ could be seen and heard on many occasions.

But all of that has now turned on its head because those noises can no longer be heard, with Postecoglou playing the biggest part in that all.
