Ahsoka won’t return for episode 9 despite cliffhanger ending

Ahsoka’s eighth episode finished on a tantalizing cliffhanger but fans hoping for an episode 9 will be disappointed.

*WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Ahsoka* — For Star Wars fans, especially those who have watched The Clone Wars and Rebels animated shows, the Ahsoka series has been a dream come true but following the cliffhanger ending of episode 8, many Disney+ viewers have been left pleading for more.

Ahsoka episode 8’s cliffhanger ending

Despite spending the whole season attempting to find and rescue their various quarries in Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn, the series’ central characters of Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren as well as Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati found themselves stranded in their place on Peridea in the distant galaxy.

Following his intricately planned escape from the fabled planet, with a mysterious cargo aboard his Star Destroyer, Thrawn sets up a base on Dathomir, the ancient homeworld of the Nightsisters within the main Star Wars galaxy.

After stowing away aboard the Chimaera, Ezra manages to steal a shuttle and reunites with the New Republic fleet and most importantly his old comrades in Hera and Chopper.

Back on Peridea, Shin seemingly formed an alliance with a group of nomadic bandits while Baylan continued his search for a mysterious power that had been calling to him that likely has a link to the Force-wielding Mortis Gods. Meanwhile, Ahsoka and Sabine take refuge with the Noti and bond over their mission, while a familiar face watches over them.

Ahsoka won’t return for episode 9

Sadly, for fans who are hoping that the dramatic cliffhanger will be resolved in an episode 9 will be disappointed to learn that there won’t be one.

That’s because the Ahsoka series was only planned to have eight episodes, much like The Mandalorian which has also had eight chapters per season.

  1. Master and Apprentice
  2. Toil and Trouble
  3. Time to Fly
  4. Fallen Jedi
  5. Shadow Warrior
  6. Far, Far Away
  7. Dreams and Madness
  8. The Jedi, the Witch, and the Warlord

It is expected that Ahsoka’s story will be picked up in the upcoming movie set to be written and directed by Dave Filoni which will see the stories of The Mandalorian, Ahsoka and the other shows in the New Republic era converge in an Avengers-style crossover event.

What is the next Star Wars release?

Following the conclusion of Ahsoka, the next Star Wars series to arrive on Disney+ is expected to be Skeleton Crew.

The show is the brainchild of Jon Watts of the Tom Holland-starring Spider-Man movies and is inspired by Amblin action-adventure movies like The Goonies and ET.

The series will see Jude Law starring a Jedi Knight who joins a gang of kids on a galaxy-spanning adventure in the same time period as The Mandalorian and Ahsoka.

Skeleton Crew had been expected to arrive in late 2023 but reports suggest that the recent/ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes could potentially see it delayed until 2024.

Other live-action shows that are in various stages of development include the Sith-focused series The Acolyte, Andor season 2, and a fourth installment of The Mandalorian. Both The Acolyte and Andor had been scheduled for 2024 but their exact release dates are currently up in the air.

Ahsoka fans plead for more

Following episode 8’s cliffhanger ending, plenty of Ahsoka fans have been left eager to see what comes next, which has prompted many to take to social media and call for more.

One fan on X (formerly Twitter) wrote: “Umm when’s episode 9 of Ahsoka? I need more! That can’t be the season finale.”

While another joked: “Dave Filoni (pretending his dog didn’t eat the script for Ahsoka episode 9): “I’m pretty sure we settled on just 8 episodes, right?”

Another is hopeful that Ahsoka could return for a second installment: “The Ahsoka finale ended exactly how I expected it to with that cliffhanger. Although they didn’t really make it seem like one. It undoubtedly sets up a season 2 of Ahsoka though.”

This was a message echoed by this fan: “No way Ahsoka just ends like that. Give me season 2 now!”

And finally, this fan jokingly tried to convince themselves that another episode is coming: “Yup, nothing to see here, I’m definitely not entering delulu land, because if I believe that Ahsoka has ended I might faint. So yeah, next week we have episode 9.”
