‘Better player’: Thierry Henry says Arsenal 28-year-old will win them the Premier League

Thierry Henry says David Raya will win the Premier League title for Arsenal, that’s why he has been brought in to replace Aaron Ramsdale.

The legendary striker defended Mikel Arteta’s call to drop Aaron Ramsdale to the bench for the last two games, including Arsenal’s 4-0 win over PSV in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

This whole goalkeeping situation has caused a bit of a stir, but Henry was clear all that matters is Mikel Arteta’s opinion because ‘he is the coach’ and ‘when you play at a big club competition will happen’, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (20/09/23 at 7:40 pm).

Ever since David Raya was brought in this summer, he has arrived on a loan deal from Brentford, his signing caused huge debate across the footballing world.

Some think it’s a mistake and harmful to have two number-one keepers because of the tension it can cause, both on and off the field of play.

But not for Arsenal legend Henry, who stated that Arteta thinks that his new recruit is a ‘better player’ than his counterpart, as well as thinking the Spain international will win him the league, so he will play him.

Thierry Henry weighs in on the Raya-Ramsdale debate

“It’s not about who is right or wrong, Mikel Arteta is the coach,” said Henry. “He sees David Raya as a guy that can make him win the league.

“When Bernd Leno left Arsenal, he saw Aaron Ramsdale as a guy who can make him go into the top four. I think if he goes and gets David Raya. It’s not me who went to get him, not Jamie (Carragher), not Peter (Schmeichel) and not whoever. It doesn’t really matter.

“He went to get him. He thinks he is a better player. There is no rotation. He thinks David Raya is better. People have to stop with that goalkeeper thing. When you play at a big club competition will happen.

“I don’t think it’s about rotation. I don’t think Mikel wants to rotate, as you can see (Raya starting again). He went to get a goalkeeper that I think and he thinks that is going to win him the league. That’s why he plays him – You have to respect that. It’s not about being right or wrong.”

Raya has started off well

That’s two games for the 28-year-old and two clean sheets on the board.

It’s a positive start for the player and, as of this moment, Arteta’s calls are being justified.

What’s interesting is what Arteta will do on Sunday because Arsenal face off against bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

You would think that Raya now keeps his place, with Ramsdale next possibly coming in for the League Cup, which ironically enough is against Brentford.

Raya, if picked, is allowed to play in that match because Brentford have allowed their loaned-out player to be selected.
