The movie, which documents Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour, was also written, directed, and produced by the star herself. The stadium tour saw the singer perform classic singles and tracks from her new album Renaissance, including “Alien Superstar,” “Run the World (Girls),” and “Drunk in Love.”
Per Variety, the Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé release is set to close Sunday with a 3-day opening weekend total of $21 million at the domestic box office. This is an astonishing result for the typically sleepy post-Thanksgiving weekend, becoming the first title to break the $20 million mark in the same frame since 2003’s The Last Samurai. However, this gross is nowhere near the opening weekend of October’s competing concert movie Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, which debuted with $92.8 million.
