‘Get him in’: West Ham United tipped to sign in-demand 27-year-old from London rivals

Owen Hargreaves has tipped David Moyes’ West Ham United to sign in-demand Brentford striker, Ivan Toney.

On Sunday, West Ham United were thrashed 4-1 by Aston Villa, with Michail Antonio coming under the spotlight for yet another questionable performance.

The 33-year-old isn’t a spring chicken anymore, with 31-year-old Danny Ings the club’s backup option, whilst summer capture Mohammed Kudus can play that role, but he is better off wide or in behind.

Either way, it got Owen Hargreaves talking about West Ham United’s number nine role as he thinks that Ivan Toney ‘screams out’ to the club to sign, as he told Premier League Productions (22/10/23 at 7:10 pm).

The problem the Hammers will face is that, when the 27-year-old’s current ban ends on January 16, then a host of Premier League clubs want to take him on board.

One of them is Premier League title hopefuls Arsenal, who would probably be top of the Englishman’s list if they came knocking because of where they currently are.

Ivan Toney to West Ham?

“Ivan Toney is the one who screams out,” said Hargreaves. “Benrahma can play off the left. Kudus can play off one of those wide areas.

“I think Moyes has got the players. Maybe get a Toney in, if you could. But I just think you have to get Kudus in the side, then allow Paqueta to play central. He is easily their best player.”

Ivan Toney would be perfect for West Ham

Given that West Ham sold Declan Rice this summer for a club-record transfer, who was their best player, then they did pretty well to replace him.

In fact, aside from the weakened result, they have started the new season really well, both in the Premier League and in Europe and their summer signings have played a part.

But if they, somehow, manage to sign a player like Toney, then it would be a serious, serious coup from the powers that be at The London Stadium.

Toney would be perfect for the Hammers and a much, much better version than Antonio.

Whether it’s Toney, or somebody else, one thing is for sure, that striker needs upgrading as soon as possible for West Ham.
