Newcastle make first move for striker compared to Aguero

Newcastle United are making moves for Santos talent Marcos Leonardo ahead of the January transfer window.

Santos wonderkid Marcos Leonardo is now wanted by Newcastle United with initials talks taking place.

That is according to a report from UOL Esporte, who report that Newcastle have ‘started the first contacts’ to sign Leonardo.

The Magpies aren’t expected to go wild in the transfer market when the January window arrives.

Newcastle may look at another midfielder after Sandro Tonali’s suspension but they could now move for an attacking player too…

Newcastle United want Marcos Leonardo

UOL Esporte now report that Newcastle have started to move for Santos talent Marcos Leonardo.

It’s stated that the Magpies have made a first move for the Brazilian by making contact for his signature.

The report claims that Santos are aware of the contacts and are now dreaming of a sale worth up to €25million (£22million).

Whether Newcastle are willing to pay that kind of fee remains to be seen but they are at least looking into a deal.

West Ham were keen on landing Leonardo in August but no deal was done, whilst Football Transfers claim that Arsenal have scouted him.

Newcastle could now pounce and bring Leonardo to Tyneside alongside compatriots Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes.

Who is Santos talent and Newcastle target Leonardo?

Leonardo has been part of the Santos ranks since the age of 11, making his way up to become a first-team star.

Primarily a striker, Leonardo has already played 161 first-team games for Santos at just 20, scoring 54 goals in the process.

That’s an impressive goalscoring record and South American football expert Tim Vickery has made comparisons to Sergio Aguero.

Leonardo has hit seven goals in seven games for the Brazilian Under-20’s and made his Under-23 bow in September.

An exciting young striker with a big future ahead of him, Leonardo could be viewed as a player to develop behind Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak at Newcastle.
