Summary

  • The major cliffhanger in Loki season 2, episode 4 suggests that the Kang variant Victor Timely could become a major MCU big bad, setting up Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
  • Victor Timely’s apparent demise and role in stabilizing the Temporal Loom may be the beginning of a new evolution, potentially leading to him becoming a more powerful and dangerous villain.
  • Victor Timely’s character development and potential evolution into a “Prime Kang” aligns with other MCU big bads like Thanos, making him a compelling antagonist for Avengers 5 for sympathetic motivations.

A new Loki season 2 theory suggests that the MCU show will set up the true big bad of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Following the major cliffhanger seen in Loki season 2, episode 4, the Kang variant known as Victor Timely (Jonathan Majors) was seemingly destroyed by temporal radiation. However, it’s possible that this could lead to a major villain merging in the MCU multiverse, one that would fit well with other MCU big bads.

Although the TVA had a plan to stabilize the overloading Temporal Loom used to weave together branch timelines, the device exploded in Loki season 2, episode 4, seemingly killing everyone and the whole of reality itself. However, Victor Timely was notably the first to seemingly die, having volunteered to fix the Loom only to be instantly vaporized as a result. However, it’s possible that this could only be the beginning of a new evolution for Timely going forward into the final episode of Loki season 2 (and perhaps beyond with Avengers 5).

Loki Season 2’s Big Twist May Lead To A More Powerful Kang

Will Victor Come Back The Same As He Was?

Victor Timely is ripped apart in Loki season 2

With two episodes left of Loki season 2, it’s evident that the cast of the new MCU show will somehow return in some fashion. However, one has to wonder if Victor Timely will return changed in some way, especially considering how he was vaporized while holding the Throughput Multiplier and his mysterious prototype device some have suggested could be an early version of Kang’s multiversal engine core seen in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Regardless, the main idea is that Victor Timely will soon evolve, becoming more than the timid inventor he’s been thus far.

As seen in episodes of Loki season 2 released thus far, there’s been fear over what Timely could become. Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) in particular is concerned that Victor could become another He Who Remains “or something worse“. As seen elsewhere in the MCU multiverse, this is undoubtedly a reference to Kang the Conqueror and all the variants who look to be far more dangerous such as the recently introduced Council of Kangs in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. As such, perhaps Victor’s theorized evolution could see him becoming a “Prime Kang”, serving as the main villain to be overcome in Avengers 5 which is set to release in 2026.

Why Victor Timely Makes So Much Sense As The Most Powerful Kang

It Tracks With Other MCU Big Bads

Victor Timely and Kang the Conqueror against backdrop of the Sacred Timeline

Currently, there’s no known confirmed fate for Victor Timely, especially after Loki season 2, episode 4’s cliffhanger with his apparent (but likely temporary) demise. However, there’s a fair bit of concern as to what he might become. Likewise, there’s also been some strong build-up toward the threat of the next Multiversal War and references to future Kang variants rising as dangerous threats. As such, Victor Timely could evolve into a very compelling new Kang variant with a higher degree of reliability and sympathetic motivation, setting him apart from other Kang variants as a classic MCU big bad.

In the same vein as Thanos as a saga-spanning villain, Victory Timely becoming a much bigger and more dangerous “Prime Kang” would be perfect. As seen in Loki season 2, Victor was introduced as a kid and given a trajectory for his life he didn’t exactly choose. Nevertheless, he then became this timid inventor with great ambition that has yet to be realized.

However, Timely still has some inherent darkness under the surface as seen with his betrayal of Ravonna and Miss Minutes. To see Timely evolve and perhaps later on in the MCU warring with all the other Kangs for multiversal dominance is a very possible avenue with some strong layers of dimension. It feels like a very on-brand arc for Marvel Studios to be setting up, especially if Timely returns in the rest of Loki season 2 somehow changed, having evolved from the man who was first introduced in 1893 Chicago.

New episodes of Loki release every Thursday at 6pm PT / 9pm ET on Disney+.
